Two artists established “HoodVibe” in 1998; “Kanine a.k.a Natchulus” & “Traphfik” who are both from the Moss Park Area formed a dynamic duo. Within the first few years the duo did not take their talents seriously, and only thought the rap game itself was impossible to be apart of; but then as the years went by their love for the game grew as well. With hard work and dedication, the duo managed to make 15 tracks in a month, but unfortunately with the equipment they had then, the tracks came out with poor quality. Not affected by this downfall, they still strived to make it their duty to be heard.
After 3 years of disappointments, struggles, and obstacles, the duo took a break from rap in 2001. One year later, the duo came back to the game with a new member, “Absolute,” who hails from the neighborhood Esplanade; added a new unique style to the group. With a new member added to “HoodVibe,” the level of versatility grew within the group. The skyrocketing crime rates within Toronto and the GTA, allowed the artists to express their emotions through music by writing about topics that youth could relate to.
In 2003, “HoodVibe” added yet another new member to their group,“7:30,” who hails from Brampton, brought an intense lyrical swagger into the group. With four powerhouses now together the juices were definitely flowing in the studio. In 2004, the group decided to add yet another member, “Spade,” into the group. With now five members in, the group’s main objective was to get exposure as much as possible. One of the hardest obstacles to overcome at the time was getting radio play. Within the same year, HoodVibe hooked up with long-time friend, “Talk-Sense,” of Stay Street Entertainment, and finally received radio play weeks after. Unfortunately, a few months later HoodVibe left Stay Street due to creative differences.
More hardships followed the group in 2005 as “Spade” was incarcerated. More roster changes occurred within the year, and things were finally looking up since “HoodVibe” achieved radio-play. In 2006, “Traphfik” dropped his solo mixtape “Crack For The Fiends,” which generated a solid buzz within the city. Later that year the team added on yet again two emcees and one femcee: “Truman,” “Young Kidd,” and the first lady of the group, “Murda Mami.”
As the group heads into the new year of 2007, many plans have been made to achieve their goal of being a powerful force in the music industry. With a combination of multiple styles and crafts within “HoodVibe,” they continue to work hard and to reach different audiences across the globe; to one day make their dreams a reality.
