From a physical viewpoint, the Hookah uses all five senses; our vision, as a collectable ornamental art object. Touch through its manipulation. Taste and smell through smoking and hearing the gurgle of water. Through the stimulation of all five senses the hookah, as a smoking device, seems to have inspired people throughout generations.
Although the exact origin of hookahs is yet a mystery, there was evidence of them in the Middle East, America, and Africa. The Turkish people were the first to make smoking water pipes a common practice. Even though they loved the waterpipe, they knew that it could be more user friendly. So, around 500 years ago, they reshaped the design and added a hose. Since then, the Turkish waterpipe has been a staple of many households and is the basis for the modern time design of the hookah.
At the turn of the 20th Century, hookahs became a significant party status symbol and it became very fashionable for Turkish upper class women to be photographed with their hookahs. Western artists have also popularized the hookah’s exotic image in their paintings.
The popularity of the hookah has sky-rocketed in recent years, mainly due to the social nature of hookah smoking. In the United States, where everything has become fast paced and hectic, the hookah has proven to be a refreshing change. Hookah smokers can now be seen across the US at sidewalk cafes in college town, nightclubs in Chicago, New York, and Miami’s South Beach.
The Shisha tobacco, also called tombac, moassel, or sheesha, is a special blend of fresh, dark tobacco leaves, fruit pulp, honey or molasses, and glycerine. The tobacco is available in a wide variety of flavors ranging from double apple, strawberry, and melon, to hazelnut, vanilla, and menthol. This tobacco contains only 0.5% nicotine and no tar. Many people prefer hookah smoke to cigarettes or hand and glass pipes because of the cool, smooth flavorful taste of the smoke...
