Hoola came into being in about 1995 when Graham and Jenny Griffith decided to use their musical playing skills to re-create the old Hapa Haole Hawaiian music that had fallen into disuse and disrepute when poor taste orchestration overwhelmed the Hawaiian music that had flourished between the wars.
Hoola is essentially a string band with Guitar, Ukulele, Steel Guitar, Bass and Vocals.
In the band context Jenny plays uke, while Graham plays steel guitar.
As a duo Jenny plays guitar or uke and Graham plays steel guitar or guitar.
Hoola has played a lot of corporate jobs, weddings, parties and some interesting ones such as Homebake (1996), the Ho’olaulea in Waikiki (1999) and support for the Aria award winning group the Avalanches (2001)
