About me: Hoot's Gallery Artist Johna Gibson Bowman was born in Toledo, Ohio on 22 July 1980 and grew up in Grand Rapids, Ohio. Currently, she lives in Swanton, Ohio with her husband, Jason, in a house that has now been a home to four generations of her family.
Hoot's Gallery is named for Johna's father, John R. "Hoot" Gibson, who left the earth suddenly in March of 2005. Johna's husband, Jason was the one who suggested the name of Hoot's Gallery to honor this wonderful father, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Johna graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Two-Dimensional Studies with a specialization in painting and drawing. Her thesis project consisted of six of her abstract works (Biopsy, Forest Through the Trees, Arterial Splendor, Autumnal Erosion, Storm and Meditation).
Johna is inspired by nature, mortality, her ancestral heritage and a slew of other things and instances too vast to mention. She is entranced by moments, memories, words, maps, photographs and what some may call trivial thoughts. Inspiration can come from something as vast as the mountains or as tiny as a speck of sand.
Though her paintings, drawings and mixed media creations vary in style, they are each inspired by a particular moment, feeling or observation. Each artwork is a celebration, whether that happens to be melancholy or joyous. Check out more art at Hoot's Gallery

It's funny that you wrote to me today. A friend gave me a refrigerator magnet with your artwork just this weekend -- it's the one with the owls. I *LOVE* it. There is something very magical and otherworldly about the images and the play of color in your work.
