Hope, Star, & Browning has more than three members.
Led by Richard Zilg and backed by a semi-revolving cast of musicians and friends, the band spins songs balanced delicately between folk and indie-rock, tradition and experimentation, craft and improvisation, sense and gibberish. They like what they do.
Zilg’s songs, traditionally written and emotionally delivered, serve as the material – instrumentation and arrangement varies from song to song, from stage to recording, and sometimes from one day to the next depending on the mood of the band and phase of the moon. Acoustic guitar, bass, drums, accordion, harmonica, electric guitar, piano, organ, xylophone, synthesizers, and occasional Flamenco hand-clapping work their way in and out of the songs, and their influences are wide and unpredictable.
The band was founded by Zilg in 2001, and to date has three releases, two released on the Low City label: "Where the walker runs down" (a split-CD EP w/The Roadside Graves, which Zilg is also a member, 2002) and the single "We'll make it somehow" (split 7" w/ Sparks Fly From A Kiss), The group has played at a number of well-respected venues in and around the tri-state area.
Mr. Zilg and Ms. Rubio were married in the Winter of 2004. They are still alive.
Hope, Star, & Browning is currently working on new songs for a new 2009 recording.
Their first full-length album "Earth, Be My Battleground!" will be released by BNS Sessions in USA/UK in Digital Form via iTunes and Amazon in 2009.
