   Hope's Voice's Blurbs
About me:
Hope's Voice is a national HIV & AIDS organization committed to promoting the education and prevention of HIV & AIDS to young adults. Hope's Voice uses open dialogue and peer-to-peer education, through both speaker appearances of young adults living with HIV & AIDS and progressive programs to send a crucial message: HIV & AIDS does not discriminate. At Hope's Voice we aim to raise awareness and help young adults create the social change that is needed to end this epidemic.

Does HIV Look Like Me? is the national awareness campaign created by Hope’s Voice. Does HIV Look Like Me? is answering the call by international leaders for a progressive social campaign that challenges the way young adults view HIV and AIDS. With half of new infections occurring in young adults under the age of 25 this campaign is crucial in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Does HIV Look Like Me? will ask the viewer to question their stereotypes about HIV and AIDS and understand that this disease does not discriminate and can affect and infect anyone. Materials distributed and produced for this campaign are challenging our audience to take a look at their own life and encouraging them to get educated, tested and know their status. Only with personal responsibility will the spread of HIV and AIDS stop. We are inspiring young adults to become involved and have a voice in this important movement.

Visit Hope's Voice to meet the speakers and book a program for your school! Please leave your comments and support!

What I would say to young people to help fight AIDS: Think about how lucky you are to live in a society where you can choose to protect yourself! Take full advantage of the liberties you have to protect yourself, protect your partners, and tell the world that all humans deserve those same rights. There is something more deadly than AIDS, and it's apathy.

First step, get tested. Don't think about doing it like "hey, I'm going to do that soon." Pick up the phone make an appointment with your doctor or contact your local public AIDS clinic for office hours. It takes just a few moments of your time. The people in the waiting room of a clinic won't judge you, they're there for the same thing. The only one preventing you, is you. Get over the fear of being judged that you are getting tested. In fact, applaud yourself for doing so. Once you know your status, then you can move on from there. Spread the word. Care about yourself and your prospective partners to demand test results. I know my status, do you know yours?

I would have thought it to be rather simple to halt the epidemic: We prevent new cases *and* treat the ones we have already. However, there hasn't been enough momentum to effectively achieve the first part, and not enough money for the second. My question is, how do we get people to internalize the reality that HIV can happen to you? I think this is where the solution starts. Any thoughts?
