Publishing excellent horror fiction that puts the art of the written word on par with both the plot and theme. We want stories to not only frighten our readers, we also want them to explore thematic elements thoroughly. We want the prose to take center stage but not to the detriment of a finely crafted story.
Books
Horror of course. Works by M.R. James, Ambrose Bierce, Edgar Allen Poe, Gaston Leroux, Charles Brockden Brown, E.F Benson, and their respective contemporaries. And many modern authors as well.
HLQ has published authors such as Kealan Patrick Burke, Tim Lebbon, Gerard Houarner, Lavie Tidhar, Maurice Broaddus, and Erik Tomblin. The new issue is due to be released in January 2008.

Horror Literature Quarterly is a member site of the Horror Fiction News Network which is owned by Gently Mad Press, Inc.
Horror Literature Quarterly is published on a quarterly basis in January, April, July, and October.
Who I'd like to meet: HLQ is seeking submissions of short stories of no more than 4000 words in length. We accept simultaneous submissions. We do not accept multiple submissions. We pay on acceptance with publication occurring within two quarters of acceptance unless other arrangements are made.
Since horror is the first word of this quarterly journal we are expecting horror stories.
