Bio
Musically inclined since birth, Seattle native Elyse Jacobson (B.Mus., UBC) began studying the violin at the age of five. During her teen years, mentorship from members of the Philadelphia String Quartet ignited in her a lifelong passion for chamber music, and she went on to be a member of several award-winning small ensembles up through her early 20s. This led her to work with some of the world's finest ensembles, including members of the Kronos, Penderecki, Lafayette, Chester, and St. Lawrence quartets, and to be twice named a Semifinalist in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. A dedicated classical musician, Elyse won her first professional symphony-orchestra position at the age of 19, and has spent a number of years performing regularly with various orchestras in Washington and British Columbia. She is the former Concertmaster of Plastic Acid, the world's first and only fully-electrified symphony orchestra, and has been a featured soloist with the Plastic Acid Orchestra, the Baranduin Ensemble, and others. Elyse gets a big kick out of the diversity within her career -- she has performed and recorded with a wide range of exceptional artists, from hip-hop megastar KanYe West to jazz-bluegrass legend Darol Anger, all the way to hardcore metal band Bleeding Through (with producer Devin Townsend), electro-indie stars The Album Leaf and pop idols Marianas Trench, classic-rockers 54-40 and The White, Canadian hit singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker, and Persian Pop sensation Hesam Deihimi, among many others. She was also one of the earliest members of Mariachi Flores de Alegria, Canada's first and only all-female mariachi group. In 2006, Elyse toured Alaska and East Asia as first violinist of the Delphinus String Quartet, ensemble-in-residence on the M.V. Sapphire Princess. She has also completed several successful concert tours in Europe and Canada with various artists. Elyse is a founding member of the "Exotic Symphonic Rock" group The Living. Their two studio albums have garnered critical acclaim all over Europe, the US, and Canada. In addition to performing, Elyse Jacobson has over 11 years of teaching experience and is a former faculty member of the British Columbia Conservatory of Music. "Elyse Jacobson's violin [playing] is warm and raw....exceptional..." -Carlos de Yarza - binarystarcast.com "The Living promises a hot evening of energetic and eclectic music...and, notably, the presence of a violinist of great talent!" -Eliane Armansa - President, Prog'Sud Association -
