Horse McDonald is a unique talent. She has been described as "an artist who wouldn't have been out of place on the stax or motown labels in their heyday." Often called 'The Voice', she has an amazing pedigree, is utterly unique, and continues to astonish.
A musician all of her life, her career has spanned three decades and eight albums. A brave artist, she sees no boundaries to her genre, having performed live with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the famous Barrowland Ballroom(subsequently released as a live album - Both Sides), as well as performing alongside artists as diverse as Tina Turner, Robbie Williams, Burt Bacharach, Bryan Ferry, BB King, Aztec Camera, Lesley Garrett, Pet Shop Boys, Kid Creole, Culture Club, Erasure, and Martha Wainwright.
In 1998 she staged the Our Lips Shouldnt Touch show over a ten night run at the drill hall in London, singing everything from Doris Day to Gluck via Madonna. The same year she performed at both Celtic Connections and the Edinburgh International Festival.
She is highly appreciated by a large and enthusiastic fan base. She made an appearance on legendary 1980s TV show The Tube and has since appeared on many TV shows, most recently featuring on The Hour on STV.
Her latest album Coming Up For Air, produced by Bob Sadler, is now complete and can be bought here pre release.
As Horse began to write the album, she suffered the loss of various family and friends. Her mother passed away first, followed very quickly by her dad. This of course devastated her but she found the writing cathartic and used it as a way of turning a terrible experience into something positive. Some of the songs are of her experience through this sad time, her sense of loss and - in the case of her father - not being able to say goodbye. Not all of the tracks relate to loss however. Featured on the album are songs about jealousy, lust, hope and uplifting moments of fun.
"one of the finest singers in Britain" - Q Magazine
"tune into this. it's lush and downright sexy stuff" - Gay Times
"her voice wraps itself around us like a great big duvet" - The Scotsman
Hello, cheers for the friendship, I think I remember going to see you in Greenock about 15 years ago, I might be wrong but I think your the same band. Anyway if it is the same horse then you are still awesome. All the best. Vulch.
Thanks for the kind wishes! Sure Berlin will be exciting as anything...my only reference point for this is City of Angels (Wim Wenders) so I'm expecting great things! Hope all is going well for you,
