   Hortons's Blurbs
About me:
Founded in 1892 by N.A. Horton, Horton's has been a part of the Carrollton Georgia community for 115 years. Originally begun as a source for school textbooks, the store expanded to include furniture, sewing machines, hymnals, songbooks, china, caskets and coffins. This was not unusual at the time as N. A. Horton was an undertaker in addition to being a bookseller. Operated by his son Hap after 1917, Horton's continued to grow along with the town. After locating in various buildings around the downtown square, Horton's returned to its original location in 1951. Antique cases from a pharmacy provide unique bookshelves as well as an ambiance found nowhere else. The original heart pine floors reflect shelves filled with a wide selection of books and gifts for all occasions. The NewsStand next door offers a variety of coffees and teas along with magazines and daily newspapers. Chloe and Mayah, the store felines, are always available to help in a customer's selection.

To the nice folks of Hortons Books & Gifts: Thank you for bringing me aboard! I’ll send you a postcard in early August with ordering info from my publisher, Leisure books. I hope you’ll consider getting a few copies. It’s a mass market paperback. Should you carry my book, thank you for the opportunity. Independent booksellers are the best!
Kind regards, Andrew Peterson (Andy)

A poem provided in observance of National Poetry Month.

Crystal Clear Blue Skies

Towers weep on peaceful shores.
Crystal clear blue skies.
Across the water, we answered the call,
Never questioning why.

Race over the berm and down the road,
Rebuilding ancient Babylon.
Smiles, waves, and shouts of joy.
Gratuities of hidden fire and roadside bombs.

Blistering sun and mouths full of sand,
White salt stains chalk the skin.
Handshake through a turret gun sight,
Peace attempted to win.

Pain, anxiety, disillusionment,
Seek comfort in each other.
Go back again, one more time,
Only for my sister or brother.
