HOTCHA! HAS A NEW CD!!
..
"DUST BOWL ROOTS: Songs for the New Depression"
..
Released TUESDAY, MAY 12 at Hugh's Room in Toronto!
..
ABOUT HOTCHA!...
Born in the swamp.
Raised on the mountain.
Worked in the mines.
Play on the porch.
Well, that's only true metaphorically. We don't actually have a porch.
..
HOTCHA! (Beverly Kreller and Howard Druckman) nonetheless feel as though their music fits the description: Rustic, rural songs of work and faith, delivered with a vintage vibe and the energy of a runaway train.
..
HOTCHA! creates a distinctive musical blend of old-time western, bluegrass, early swing and country gospel. If you could take a picture of HOTCHA!'s music, it would be a grainy, sepia-toned portrait of
depression-era musicians with nothing but an old Sears-Roebuck guitar and a nickel in hand for the jitney dance. If you listen to HOTCHA!'s music, you'll hear a unique combination of accordion and bodhran (Celtic drum) alongside gritty guitar, wailing harmonica and soaring vocal harmonies.

PRESS QUOTES...
..
"This debut is sure to bring a smile to your face and a rumble and shake to your legs that'll make you want to dance around the parlour with a properly chilled mint julep." ~ Chris Burland (ChartAttack.com)
..
"Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist BEVERLY KRELLER has a strong and versatile voice, while partner HOWARD DRUCKMAN added spirited vocal and guitar support.” ~ Kerry Doole (Tandem "On the Beat")
..
"HOTCHA! bring something new to the table -- namely, original songs that actually stand up to the likes of Irving Berlin and Louis Armstrong, both of whom they cover here...[they] jump between hot jazz and bluegrass... they sound vivid and fresh..." ~ Michael Barclay (Guelph Mercury)
..
"HOTCHA! does a really fine job of evoking the music of the Great Depression by combining period pieces like Louis Armstrong’s “Ol’ Man Mose” with very cool in-the-tradition originals like 'Mines Went Down’… that’s very effectively set to a Gene Krupa-like drum pattern. [Their] original songs are very well crafted.” ~ Mike Regenstreif (Folk Roots/Folk Branches)
..
"...genuine enthusiasm and infectious energy... if time’s all you’ve got to spend, listening to HOTCHA! is a fine way to spend it …! ~ John Taylor (thelivemusicreport.com)

Hi Bev! We enjoyed your Montreal at the Wheel Club so much. I've loaned one of you CDs to a friend, and she agrees that it's wonderful. I'm getting ready to sing for the grown-up crowd again. Just posted some new songs (demos) on Myspace - they should appear tomorrow.
Hey from over here, too! I just put up a couple of chunes from our thang the other night, if you wanna give them an earball. DBR(sftnd) is getting good spinnage around here: Odette definitely approves too.
...the album sounded great on the trip back to Mtl! It's sharing the stereo here with an even recenter debut album acquisition, by the very fine Mtl act Lake of Stew. (They played with Mr Snider at the Black Sheep, apparently...)
Nice new chunes! "Land o' Lakes" is excellent & apropos... Y'all should check out Marc Nerenberg (among our fwends): he'd be right up yer alley! Maybe you remember him, Howard? Cheers, P.
Thanks for the add! Wishing you all the best! Cheers, The WAC gals We.Are.Canadian Every Thursday from 6-8pm EST on CJLO (www. cjlo. com) & Tuesday from 11pm-1am EST on PUNKRADIOCAST (www. punkradiocast. com)
