It was the happiest day of my life. I will never forget my dad's electric guitar. It was a one of a kind Gibson Barney Kessel, usually played by jazz guitarists. I can still remember my father standing every evening in the doorway, holding a big white box with a guitar in it, saying goodbye before hitting the road. One evening, for the first time in my life, I asked my father if I could play his Barney Kessel. I was five years old at the time. I sat down on the bed in my small room and opened my arms wide. My dad placed his guitar on my knees, said a few words and left the room. I carefully pulled the guitar to my stomach, trying to place my left hand on the neck of the guitar and my right hand on the body, quite a difficult task for such a young child. I moved my right hand back and forth, lightly touching the six strings, and voilà – I played the first tune in my life. The sounds bursting into the room were somewhat incoherent but for me they were at that moment, the whole world."
