There once was a hotel room in Melbourne. This hotel room was much like many of its brethren - plain, pale and inoffensive. On the wall of this hotel room, after much gazing, there was noticed a painting - plain, pale and inoffensive. This painting was an obvious imitation of Rothko's colour field theory style of painting, but lacked any of the impact of that great artist's work. It was, essentially, a Hotel Rothko.
Rothko's colour field style aimed to engage the audience in a different style of painting, stripping away standard imagery to speak in simpler terms, leaving the painting alone as a single unified whole. From its simplicity comes its power, beauty and effect.
A musical equivalent of Rothko would aim to strip away common synthetic complexities to leave the music simple, but effective. With a minimal orchestration it would aim to envelop you in fields of sound unified as music.
This is what Rothko would be, in a completely different medium. But then, we're not Rothko, we're Hotel Rothko, just a pale imitation...
We recently posted our brand new video clip for the song "Dove", taken from AKASHIC's first album, Timeless Realm.
About the song: "We choose 'Dove' because it's an important song in the band's history. It's one of the oldest themes, taken from the first CD "Timeless Realm" and is always present in our set list. Because of its melody, many people got interested in our work. When we talked with the director (Marcelo Mugnol) it didn't take us long to find the direction of the images. The camera goes from slow to intense, from the urban space to a more free one. The band is exposed purely with the music and performance."

The Cashews are proud to announce their first open-air, unamplified, low cost, GUERRILLA GIG for summer 06/07:
TUESDAY 12TH DECEMBER, 6pm – 7.30pm
with SANJIVA DE SILVA
PLEASE EMAIL US - thecashews@thecashews.com - YOUR MOBILE PHONE NUMBER or EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO TELL YOU WHERE IT IS ONE HOUR BEFORE THE GIG!!
(it will be no more than a 5 minute drive / 10 minute bike ride from civic)
What will happen is:
1. You tell us your mobile number/email address, by which you’re telling us that you want to be informed about ALL future guerrilla gig’s (until the day you finally send us a text saying “stop pestering me about these dang-na-tious things”) – we might even occasionally text you about other interesting cashews-related things too, so be warned.
2. An hour before the gig is scheduled, we check the latest weather report, and send you a text message / email telling you WHERE it is.
3. You come along with a bunch of friends, something to sit on, and if you like, something to eat and drink, or whatever makes you happy.
4. We perform, along with assorted friends and guests, for an hour or two. Totally acoustic…hush hush.
5. You donate a small amount of money to us to cover the costs of the text messages.
EASY! :o)
if you're wondering what a guerrilla gig is - come to our website to find out...
