Hot Fur is one of the leading Progressive Jazz Rock ensembles in Israel. It was formed by the guitar player and composer Lior Frenkel in 1998. The ensemble originally started as a progressive rock band and performed all over Israel.
Over the years Hot Fur became more than a music ensemble as a group of artists, poets, dancers and actors began performing with the group transforming the concerts into wild, expressive theatrical shows which combined music, theater, dance and art.
As the band became known and loved in the Israeli music scene, Hot Fur set out on its 'A Bizarre Band in a Bizarre Hour' tour, performing every other Friday at the famous 'Barby' club in Tel Aviv. The band's bizarre performances included vegetables being thrown on stage, cardboard face figures reciting spiritual texts, girls smoking Arabian water pipes,
monsters teaching each other how to scream and more...
The band also recorded its first album 'Hot Fur!' which was released in 2005 by the French label 'Musea'. During that period Hot Fur appeared on television, radio and won critical acclaim in the Israeli press.

In 2001 Frenkel moved to Holland to study composition at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, forcing Hot Fur to temporary stop its performances.
Upon Frenkel's return to Israel in 2003, the ensemble began performing again. This time with a brass section and an enhanced theatrical facet, as the designer Dan Hochberg joined the group.
Combining Frenkel's structured original music and Hochberg's unique visual style, the concerts reached a new level in theatrical music performances.
Figures like a giant perverted bird, an angry half flee-infected dog/half old man, and a weirdo dressed only in underwear and a Russian fur hat were just a few of the new characters.
This line of concerts performed successfully between 2003-2006, constantly transforming itself, managing always to surprise Hot Fur's die-hard audience.
