Then along comes Hot Hands. Jeffrey (guitar and vocals) and Kristin (drums and vocals) are a gritty, blatant noisefest creating the perfect under two-minute loud pop song. The band has released one cassette on Kick Bright Records and has appeared on several Florida Label compilations. More recordings and touring in 2009 is to be expected.
REVIEW: "Hailing straight from the garage down the block, Hot Hands strips it all down to the absolute bare essentials to grind out their two-minute (that's all it takes to get their point across) noise-pop tunes. Drums, guitar and screeching vocals meld into one pumping ball of energy that throws back to the days of Darby Crash and the Germs, minus the flying beer bottles. Probably." -- Orlando Weekly. 1/3/08.
LIVE REVIEW: "Closing was the hit-and-run garage-pop of Hot Hands. Comprised of drummer Kristin Messina and guitarist Jeffrey Howard (whose collective résumé includes Jeanie & the Tits, the Courtneys and the Sharp Objects), the girlfriend-boyfriend duo bashed out a set that was exactly like my first kiss: amateurishly sloppy but totally awesome. Besides enjoyable music, the ridiculous exchanges between the two made the performance virtually a comedy act." -- Orlando Weekly. 1/10/08.
LIVE REVIEW: "I was thinking The Walking Bones (who I saw in their hometown of Hattiesburg a while back) was more or less the stars of this show, but it seems Hot Hands (ex-jeanie and the tits, Sharp Objects) stole the show here, at least to some extent. Catching Hot hands’ set on the ass-end, I’d have to say I was impressed with their psych-pop (look like everybody else is call ing it noise-pop) that was actually pretty catchy." -- Ear Damage. 12/14/08.
Opera Mash-Up tonight will (as always) have live recordings of the whole evening. Tonite we are mashing Opera with Funk then our "Noise Encore" will be kicked off with punk (Brain Damage!!). But any of you who have been to these shows knows that we encourage musicans to come up and play and that The Famous Billy records it all.
We would LOVE LOVE LOVE some scatters (no...not poopers) to come out and scat during our funk jam session. So if you have a diddly-bop-do-whop in you, you should come out.
This Tuesday we are featuring Opera singer Rene Turner. Next Tuesday we have Miriam Leigh and the following Tuesday we have Laura Vacari. Brain Damaged promises to have at least two punk groups a night. And our crazy funk band will get you jump-jive-n-whalin.
As always, no cover. FREE! Under 21 welcome. I LOVE NOISE MUSICIANS!!! So come out an join us during our mash program and do a solo set during "Encore Noise". Even if all you have is a kazoo...dont be shy.
