"Unofficial" bio:
Three (sometimes four) guys who like to play music and make fun of each other.
"Official" bio:
Household Names are a rock band, first and foremost. "We like to have a good time, is the main thing," the band's frontman and singer, Jason Garcia, says. As primary songwriter, Garcia is always trying to, in his words, "write the best pop song ever." What qualifies as the best pop song ever? "One that just captures a feeling so perfectly. You want people to have that 'YES!!' moment when your song comes on. That moment when they turn to their friend drunkenly and go, 'I love you, man!'"
That "love" is an elusive thing is a theme that pervades many Household Names songs. Garcia asks questions about relationships and situations that often remain unanswered. This lyrical uncertainty is often countered by the upbeat sound of a lot of the songs ("The guys like to rock," Garcia says), which can vary between singer-songwriter confessional, New Wave pop, and Foo Fighters-esque rock, and the layered arrangements recall the chart-topping era of Fleetwood Mac. But each song stands alone, a quality that Garcia attributes directly to the influence of that cult favorite, The Beatles. "They just wrote each song like it was in its own musical universe," he says. "It didn't have to fit on an album, or fit anywhere. Each song just sounded great on its own."
