Born out of love and frustration, the House of Blue Dolls are an Oxford based
band formed by drummer Dario Derma Lena at the end of 2005. He hand picked the
most talented musicians he had played with, to create fresh, audacious and
original music. Thanks to their wide and diverse musical experience, the Blue
Dolls form a band that is altogether something too different and exciting to be
easily labelled. The bands music combines a facility for rock music, with a
taste for funky and Latino grooves as well as an appreciation of jazz and
contemporary classical music, leading to a unique sound. After having
collectively written a large amount of original material, the Dolls hit the
studio in May 2006 to record their first demo together with Richard Haines at
the Dungeon Studios (Radiohead, Supergrass). The result is a reflection of the
groups diverse tastes and musical backgrounds, and thats just what can be
expected from the Dolls: exciting and vibrant, with a unique yet universal
style. With tracks such as Knock on Hollywood, Chevy 51, Tangore and
Corpo Rita, this first effort presents a new twist to rock music thanks to
Latino flavoured vocals, razor sharp guitar riffs, mammoth drums arrangements
and bubbling bass lines. The House of Blue Dolls are now focusing on hitting
the road in order to translate all their musical goodness into a monster stage
show at venues in Oxford and the rest of England. The House of Blue Dolls have
finally arrived! The band wants to achieve musicality and pleasure in both us
players and the listeners. Clever music that can make you dance as well as
sing, without loosing its musical brilliance.
Thanks to Max Warner for the photos and to Suki for the lovely artwork!
