   MusicalTraditions's Blurbs
About me:
House of Musical Traditions is a music store in Takoma Park, MD, right outside of Washington DC. As of June 3 2008, we have moved our location (just across the street) to 7010 Westmoreland Ave, Takoma Park MD. Since 1972, HMT has been specializing in acoustic musical instruments from around the world. You can see our complete catalog on our website, www.musicaltraditions.com. We also have lots of cool stuff for sale in our Ebay and Amazon stores.

We also carry instructional books, folk music tunebooks, general interest music books, and amplification systems (focused on the acoustic side of things). We have a recordings department that is focused exclusively on artists who are local to the Washington, DC area. We are huge supporters of local music!

HMT is considered an invaluable resource to the local music community. We advertise local events; you can always find out what's going on in the area by browsing our bulletin board. Our sister concert series, Institute of Musical Traditions, www.imtfolk.org is a non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional music and folk arts.

We also offer many services at our store. We do instrument rentals, repairs, and appraisals. We offer in-store lessons on many instruments and have a large network of qualified teachers in the area (covering almost any instrument you can think of) that we can refer you to. We rent sound systems and can provide sound engineers and musician referrals for your event. We deal extensively in used instruments and offer trade & consignment. We've been doing mail order sales for over 30 years and can ship worldwide.

You may have also seen our satellite booth at various festivals around the area, such as the Maryland Renaissance Festival, Potomac Celtic Festival, Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, Virginia Scottish Games, Takoma Park Folk Festival, etc...

Our staff is friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about music. We're willing to go the extra mile for our customers and are happy to special-order that odd item that you just can't find anywhere else. Remember our motto: "If it's in stock, we may have it!"

Who I'd like to meet:
You in person! We're located at: 7010 Westmoreland Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

Promotional Video(My Girl From The South Sea Isles)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

I joined the Bacon Brothers Street Team this week and it is so cool! They have all these tasks you can complete to get points which you can spend in the online store on things like autographed CDs and meet & greet passes. I'm really excited!!
