One of the most engaging performers on the New England folk circuit, Howie Newman combines music, comedy and audience participation to provide a truly unique entertainment experience.
His amusing original compositions are up-tempo and catchy, and he keeps things lively with funny between-songs banter and short comedy bits (there is also a smattering of serious material).
Although he is best known for writing baseball songs (e.g., “Blasted in the Bleachers”), Newman’s music covers a broad range of user-friendly subjects. Topics include television commercials, getting up in the morning, cell phones, middle age dating, intergalactic garbage collection and more.
His first full-length album, Trust Me, You’ll Like It, was released in May 2006.
Howie -- Thanks for including me as a friend. The Helping our Neighbors concert was fantastic -- the best $6 I've ever spent for a night of music and a great chance to hear your songs. And the Music in Melrose open mic is a treasure. Thanks.
I liked it! Actually, I loved it. Your songs "Skeptical" and "Way Past My Bedtime" are being played on Cracklin' Radio this week. I will be including your album (in full) on my Main Course show on Sept. 1 on LG73 (www.lg73.com) as well. I'm everyone else will love it as well.
Hi Howie, thanks for the add! I've enjoyed your baseball songs -- I have great respect for people who can combine sports and folk music. Will try to get over to the open mic in Melrose sometime. Enjoy the rest of the Red Sox season; hopefully it'll be something worth enjoying.
