Melbourne based four-piece Howl at the Moon are three boys and one girl – just as likely to be found playing haunting folk dirges as jarring, mashed rock or catchy 60’s inspired jangle-pop.
Revealing tales of heavenly bodies, dead-hot days and escapades on desolate hillsides, singer Katie Scott fronts the band, with a heavy focus on melody and lyric. Fellow New Zealand ex-pats Mark Renall (Bass), Mikey Brennan (Drums), and Melbourne local Matt Storey (Guitar) complete the line up with a broad base of influences.
A mutual love of soulful artists such as Elliott Smith, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, as well as the chaotic and textured sounds of acts such as Sonic Youth, Radiohead and PJ Harvey is evident in the band’s diverse music. In the short year since the line-up’s formation, performances have gained Howl at the Moon a reputation as an intense and uniquely breathtaking act.
