Howlin' Hobbit -- mainly ukulele and vocals but also assorted other things like bass, washboard, swanee (slide) whistle, harmonica and whatever else falls to hand.
Influences
The Asylum Street Spankers, Azo Bell, Craig Robertson, Davis Sweet, The Fabulous Heftones, The Hoosier Hotshots, John Kavanagh, Louis Jordan, Manitoba Hal, many deserving people who's names I'm simply spacing out right now, Patsy Monteleone, Satchmo, Shorty Long, Spike Jones, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Thomas "Fats" Waller, White Ghost Shivers and hell, Tin Pan Alley in general.
Howlin' Hobbit has been playing music and singing since grade school. That was somewhere back in the dark ages.
Howlin' plays a variety of instruments, but his main "axes" are ukulele (too much fun in a tiny package), harmonica and washboard.
For many years Howlin' has been a busker at the Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, playing mainly blues on guitar and harmonica at first but now playing ukulele and all that jazz! In the summer of 2001 he played washboard with Patsy Fuller, another busker (from the U.K.), and was featured in that capacity (as well as vocals and harmonica) on her CD 'Twixt Pike & Pine.
Currently (in addition to his solo efforts) Howlin' is playing with Snake Suspenderz, a hot jazz and novelty act that has recently grown from a duo to a quartet. It features ukulele, bass trombone, drums, and tuba.
Mark your calendars because this will be our only Full Band show in July!

Hello my old friend. As always, your playing dazzles me. I wanted to let you know that we'll be sharing a ukulele rock strangeness with Seattle at The Columbia City Theater on July 13th. We'd love help and suggestions for spreading the word. We'd be honored to see you. Perhaps we can even persuade you to strum a tune! Much love and balloon animals, - Ukulele Loki
Hey, thanks about the bassoon! I've gotta say, I love your Don't Get Around Much Anymore. My high school jazz band played that the other year (I played piano), and it sounds just as good (or better) on the uke. Awesome job!

Hey. Just stopping by to let you know that I'll be playing at ToST Lounge in Seattle on June 2nd at 8pm. If you're in the neighborhood, come by and say hello!
First off, thanks for turning me on to the order of the fez group. I would like to join that, I just have to have more time to read through it all to find out how to do it. I also found Fezarrati and joined it, and I really liked the Fez-0-rama people. I may be putting in an order if they can put my logo on and give me a different color other than maroon. I get asked if I'm a shriner all the time, and its getting old. Boris Karloff is the one that sold me on wearing a fez as a kid. I wanna hear your band now. Really nice meeting you :D
Hi Wowlin' Hobbit, thanks for adding me to your Myspace circle of friends. I can't help but feel the joy in your music. It is almost impossible not to smile and want to get up and dance. I hope I make it to Seattle this summer so I can catch your act. Be well, John
Greetings, I hope all is well and that you had a great weekend...
I have a blog up and running at:
I will mainly write about my life, both as one of the guitarists of Gallows End, and even other things that's going on in my life. I will post things I find amusing and fun, and there will also be guitar drills, exercises and the like now and then.
