Influences
The Beatles, Kurt Vonnegut, John F. Kennedy (that whole "ask what you can do for your country" deal...), Arthur Collette, Stanley Wilczynski, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, Joe Strummer, KIDS WHO SEARCH BEYOND WHAT IS PUT IN FRONT OF THEM, and anyone who tries to steer us away from becoming George Orwell's worst nightmare.....
What makes the HRA different from other “rock schools” is that HRA students participate in a “real band” environment--writing, recording, and performing their own music. Children (and adults) in the HRA program are able to forge their own creative identity while learning to work as a team, cooperating and negotiating through the creative process as a working unit. How students learn to express their own musical and artistic voice is more important than how well they play classic rock “covers.” HRA bands stay together for an entire school year, and, in a number of cases, over three years. HRA does not operate a camp or a school so much as an original thought factory in the discipline of musical expression.
"It is difficult to put into words how HRA has affected our lives. It transformed my son from being a drummer to being someone passionate about the drums and music...Every child should be so lucky to have been touched by this program" - Luann Williams, parent
"The academy has heavily influenced so many aspects of my life. Upon meeting Wilczynski I was a non-committing, and overall timid singer. Five years later, I can confidently state that I have become a strong and passionate vocalist and performer. Thanks to Wilczynski and the Academy, I have been steered from hopes at pop princess stardom to legitimate, hard work aimed at a future in the world of real, original, rock and roll" - Dani Lewin, student & member of Von Noble
"We feel very fortunate to have met Matt and that our children can participate in HRA. It has made a difference in their lives and they are happier for it. No matter what their future chosen professions, they will carry their HRA experience with them. For this we are very grateful to Matt Wilczynski and The Hollywood Rock Academy. " - Luann Barry-Goldman, parent and board member of the HRA Foundation
