PATTY HALL loves to celebrate and performing folk music is one of her first loves. Whether in a humorous original song, an unaccompanied Anglo American ballad, or spirited banjo tune, this 4th-generation California native applauds the historical, the topical, and the humorous.
For more than three decades, PATTY has delighted audiences at folk festivals, coffee houses, and in concert, with her eclectic mix of old-timey, country/blues, and original songs, played on guitar, banjo, and keyboard. Her repertoire also includes songs that tie into themes of the many childrens books she has written.
PATTY first caught folk music fever as a teenager in the San Francisco Bay Area. Already a diligent plunker on her Dads ukulele, she attended the 1963 Berkeley Folk Festival. High on folk music, she taught herself to play banjo, guitar, and autoharp and soon after, made her performing debut at Hayward High School in a all-girl old-timey band.
In the early 1970s, she penned her first original song, "Organic." This topical ode to the health food feeding frenzy became an audience favorite and was eventually included in the songbook "Heres to the Women!"
In 1972, Patty entered the Folklore Graduate Program at UCLA & made the rounds on the Southern California folk circuit, performing original and grass-roots songs at folk festivals, coffeehouses, and on radio.
Patty moved to Nashville in 1975 to work at the Country Music Hall of Fame, where she led banjo workshops, produced albums of historical country music for Rounder and Foundation Records and wrote liner notes for the Franklin Mint and Time-Life Records.
Patty spent the 1980s and 1990s writing books for children and adults, published by Pelican and Simon & Schuster and also joined several groups who were researching and performing historical music at Tennessee museums and historic sites.
A move back to California in 2000 rekindled Pattys passion for songwriting and performing as a soloist again, sharing her eclectic blend of original, traditional, topical, and childrens songs with West Coast audiences and beyond. In 2005 she recorded and released her first commercial cd, JUST BE GLAD! (Native Daughter Records CD-1001)
After 25 years spent in the wilds of Music City, Patty Hall is delighted to be living, writing, and performing again in the great Golden State, where her roots run deep, new book and song ideas abound, and folk music is, thankfully, very much alive and kicking.

Patty! Seeing you perform at Lou's benefit concert makes me understand why "Just Be Glad" is what happens for me when you perform. You are a treasure! Hugs, Tanya
Patty—Thanks for the befriending. I really like your tunes. "Back in the Olden Times" has that lovely, old, pure folk, "banjo sweet" feel that I haven't heard since Hedy West...or at least since the McGarrigles ...And the "Knees" song is a hoot! Keep up the good fight. Tim
Hi Patty, thanks for adding me! I have buried in my old reel to reel tapes a copy of Organic when you sang it in 1974 in the park, remember those days? I could send you an mp3 of it if you like. Your song Just be Glad is a great song! Love it! Don Jennings, go to my spot and you can hear what I have been up to musically lately if you find time.
