Review Piccadilly Records Manchester---Treat me right E.P
After bringing us one of the techno / house tracks of the summer, Tony Lionni returns with two twelves in one week; one on Wave and this, my personal favourite on Freerange. If you liked "Found A Place" from the Berghain sampler then "Celebration" takes the same formula - epic piano hook, gorgeous vocal loop, blissed out breakdown, slamming kick - and brings us a killer techno track for the forthcoming winter months. We're taking bets on how many times you'll hear this track out before the new year. Huuge! "Running Away" is a late night groover with more catchy hooks and sizzling percussion. Lionni has a knack of making two chords amazingly catchy and listenable. "Treat Me Right" is long, drawn out affair with cascading synths, crackling percussion and thumping kick drawing influences from Pepe Bradock, Ame, Francois K and Detroit soundscapes. One for the deeper heads who like their house to take them on a journey. The Jimpster remix gives a jacking urgency to proceedings with its loose drum beat adding an alternative feel to the title track but it's definitely "Celebration" on the B-side that is the real winner in my book.
