Influences
Anything with abit of passion and integrity. Music is our link to the universe, it is the vibration in all things.. to wield that in our hands is a gift! and every musician, everywhere has the responsibility to use that power to make a difference.
We must begin with the mind of the individual, we must enlighten, we must stand for truth because it is truth, success or failure being irrelevant abstract concepts.
Art is the last vestige of resplendent beauty in this world, and in my opinion, Music is the greatest of all (it being a direct empathy with others, almost as though you are placing your feelings into anothers mind), do not doubt its ability to make a change...
Sounds Like
We're never sure how to answer this one!- weve been compared to Led Zep, SOAD, TOOL, lyrically to Nine Inch Nails and PJ Harvey, Al di Meola, among others (whose names will not be mentioned here!)... different people seem to relate the sound to whatevers personal to them when they come to our gigs or hear us, so I guess that means youll have to make up your own minds:)....
HUBRIS is a heavy acoustic progressive rock musical venture that, as the genre description suggests, denies exact definition. Consisting of myself (Matt Pay) and Nicholas Christou (who is on a slight sojourn but currently handling production) It is of us for us and about us in that HUBRIS is a way of conveying our life philosophies- how we feel the world should change, whats wrong with it etc but most of all its about human potential/acceptance - EVERYONE has the potential to be more than what you are, reach for something deeper in your life DONT become another template for the system to use!, human beings are social animals and as such we need each other (thats why we have such a range of talents, we all fill a natural role perfectly and its together we will make a difference) and it sounds cheesy but love one another.. love is a combination of time, understanding and effort - Hate is ignorance, you cannot hate something you understand and if you understand something well enough then that is love.
HUBRIS is a passionate effort to understand and through that, hopefully, it will help others to understand too.......
HUBRIS has been played several times on various regional radio stations - the most recent being the fox's den (101.8 fm) and Thrashmans mosh pit at Express fm.
Weve also had several excellent reviews published inl independent magazines around manchester and elsewhere (london, liverpool) with a new one about to be published in a "short fanzine about rocking" in manc very soon.
Weve also been featured recently on the front page of the unsung heroes website.
Weve just finished recording our 10 song strong demo and currently in production is our upcoming album "Philosophy of Conversations"..
The album will be due for release sometime next year in the shops so watch this space people..
Were gigging extensively around manc at the mo so come and check us out :) - you can check out www.myspace.com/hubris1614 for gig postings and music.
- connected to HUBRIS: Ive also written a short novellette explaining the philosophies behind HUBRIS called TYRO the apprentice (the HUBRIS bible), sections of which are due for publication in Philosophy Now and are currently being used in London by the Philosophy Workshop to educate children about philosophy and the importance of asking questions/reaching for a deeper knowledge of things within your life.
As I said watch this space!!
