   About huck
michael scott huck....born 04.20.82 in cherokee, ia......the youngest of four......first influence of music was my father.....being the youngest i never really got to spend alot of time with him......most of his time was spent with my older brothers doing things i was too young for.....hence turning me into the momma's boy that i am today.....the time i did spend with him we would listen to music......"you know who this is?"...he would make sure i knew who i was listening to.....it quickly became a way for me to connect with my dad.....he would show me all these songs that he loved......then show me which particular parts of the music moved him and why.....this got me listening to as much as i could.....that way next time we'd listen i could add my feelings, and know what he was talking about.....through growing up i had many different influences.....my father gave me a passion for music that made me seek out all that i could....there was an oldies and classic rock influence from my dad....80's pop and synth from my sister......80's metal from one of my brothers.....and rap from the other brother......also many others from my friends and relatives.......my school didn't offer band until 3rd grade.......when deciding an instrument i picked drums because my brother was a drummer in school.......the teacher wasn’t a real drum oriented teacher so i just got the basic understanding of rhythm and percussion.....i continued to listen to all the music i could.....having a walkman and boom box i played mix tapes i made constantly.....around 7th grade i started picking up guitar......no real influence just started to get an interest in making the music i’ve been listening to for years......never taking lessons or really learning the instrument i picked it up quickly (thank you tabs).....a little while later i started teaching myself how to play 5 piece drums.......around this time a new kid moved into my school (d.L.o.)..........he played percussion at his last school which had a drum line and seat based concert band which my small high school lacked......i picked up some rudiments and other drum styles from him that helped me profoundly.......this same year i met my partner in crime mitch.....one day in marching band i had a korn hat on.....he commented on how bad ass it was.....the rest is history......this is the point in my life when i really started to get into the making of music rather than just listening.....we started a small band "trip wire" so we could make music that we loved.....kind of a metal three piece we added another guitar player (cole d.) and two singers (j-sin & chris "pee hole" bien).....playing numerous house and field parties we had a small local following........lack of inspiration and life drew us in other directions........a major break threw in my music making came my junior year in high school.......this was music theory class....in this class i learned music history and theory.......it was here i learned basic song writing and taught myself the basics of piano......it also introduced me to a korg 01/w pro.....this keyboard probably made me the man i am today......mitch and i would rush through any assignment in class so we could have more time to make tracks......mostly using step recording on the onboard sequencer we would then record live mixes onto sound forge on a p.c.........i had three classes in the band room each of my last three years.......this made for more than enough time to pump out track after track......during this time i really started exploring my drumming....becoming better at playing a full set as well as quince in marching band and everything but bass and snare in concert band......it was at this same time i was also playing guitar for "trip wire"........during marching band dustin and i grew tired of the music we were playing (our band also sucked).....he had an idea to do a drum feature........so at the weekly football games.....we would take turns soloing back and forth while playing accented taps when we weren't.......this quickly became a fan favorite at halftime shows.....after high school i continued playing guitar and drums but slowly got out of making music........slowly slipping back into listening and studying mode.....this is when i discovered alot of different styles of music i had heard before but never took the time to really listen........around this time i got a turntable setup because i wanted to learn how to scratch.....didn't really get into djing because i wasn’t interested in mixing together other peoples music.......i figured why waste the time on other peoples music when i could be working on mine........mitch moved to arizona to go take engineering courses at the conservatory of recording arts.......i didn't have any drums so i couldn't play them.......started being really uninspired so guitar slowly got phased out too......still listening and learning just no real creation coming from me........after a drought i started picking up guitar again.......mitch came out and visited bearing gifts of acid pro and tons of sounds.........i didn't really use it at first......i just listened to about 2 cd's full of music he made.......and that’s about all i listened to for a month.....i just picked the songs apart......figuring out what cuts he did.....what effects and pan's he used.....i bought a laptop and went to work........his explanations and my knowledge of what he did made me familiar with the program before i installed it........i had an overnight job so i would make music most nights and during the day when i spent time with my daughter........mitch soon moved back to kansas with a ton of experience and studio knowledge......we started recording keyboards, guitars, and vocals through a microphone line-in on his pc and making beats out of one shot drums........living with him in the sprung hole studio we didn't have cable so any free time was dedicated to making music......because of that we have a collection over 400 tracks strong.....and those are only the songs we mixed down for our own guilty pleasures......there are also tons of other projects half done or just ideas we have had and just wanted to get down........he has collected some gear over the years that i reap the benefits from.......the most used are a digi design 002 rack, korg padkontrol, korg triton, and a yamaha motiv rack.........i have a independent record label in the works.......i decided if i want my music out there i have to do it........so lately i've started trying to build a fan base.....it's just recently i became confident in my music and decided to push it.......before i was just content making tracks for myself......now i'm focusing on getting an album ready by this summer......mitch and i are also working on a live show with vocals and live instruments.....it's just hard to buckle down to make a concept album and a live show when all you want to do is write new music........i'll leave you with a quote from me....i didn't really consider it a quote until punky jewster left it on my site........"i don't just listen to music.....i study it"................
..................
