"Storyteller, songteller, fictioneer, poet, troubadour, wandering
balladeer, Garett carves his considerable and capacious skills here to
make a sort of aural collection of short stories, and me personally
myself I find that under the orthodox pleasures of the meticulous
picking, gentle hooks, amiable amused humorous pointed singing, and
tales told there are other things going on: clean crisp mountain winds,
somehow the smell of aspen and juniper maybe?, and creaking wood, and
somewhere the rumor of cougar, and laughter, and the honeyed golden
light of the wood that guitars are made of, and sidelong glances that
are whole languages among people who trust each other, and stuff like
that that sounds nutty but trust me its in this record if you bring all
nine of your ears into play. Also I think Garett made a record that is
somehow gracefully and substantively in and of and about and a hymn to
and a cry for the American West, which is still wonderfully a place
crammed with the geography of hope, as my boy Wallace Stegner said, and
also, seems to me sometimes, on one of them shocking clear brilliantly
lit redolent with cedar and sage days, the most possible planet for
human beans to finally rise to their best and most delicious selves.
Or something like that.
Questions and complaints? See Garett."
