Riverkeeper protects the Hudson River from pollution and harmful development projects; safeguards New York City’s drinking water; and leads the battle to close the Indian Point nuclear power plant. To accomplish our work, we rely on our own investigators and lawyers, and enlist the help of experts in law, engineering, biology, hydrology, economics and energy policy. We also depend on our Boat Captain John Lipscomb and Citizen Watchdogs, our eyes and ears on the River, and the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic whose law students assist on Riverkeeper cases.
Objective
Riverkeeper is committed to empowering activists and citizens to defend the Hudson River, the New York City Watershed, and the environment of their own communities.
History
Riverkeeper began as the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association (HRFA), an environmental watchdog organization founded by a group of concerned fisherman in 1966 under the leadership of Bob Boyle. In 1983 the HRFA launched a patrol boat, hiring John Cronin as the first full-time Hudson Riverkeeper. The HRFA officially changed its name to Riverkeeper in 1986.
About me:
Over its 41-year history, Riverkeeper has led the battle to wrest control of the Hudson from polluters through its reliance on law, science and our unique brand of hard-hitting grassroots advocacy. The organization is widely credited for having restored the River to its much improved condition and for having spearheaded the campaign to safeguard the upstate watersheds that provide New York City and much of Westchester with the best tasting drinking water in the nation. Riverkeeper has established internationally recognized standards for waterway and watershed protection and is the proud model and mentor for over 170 other Waterkeeper programs on waterways across North America and around the globe.
In celebration of New York City’s world-renowned tap water, Riverkeeper has produced a reusable stainless steel water bottle in time for the holidays.
..
Who I'd like to meet: People who care about the Hudson River and want to protect it from polluters and sprawl. People who appreciate the Hudson River and enjoy fishing, boating, and swimming in it, or simply being in its presence. People who believe in the work Riverkeeper does and want to support us.
Thanks for supporting WATERKEEPER Alliance online! Waterkeeper Alliance is an international grassroots advocacy organization with 182 Waterkeepers and growing. We are dedicated to preserving and protecting your water from polluters.

The sun was beginning to burn off the morning mist that hung over the river, like a gentle white veil. The water murmured and sparkled, as it flowed along. Up in the sky the turkey buzzards that nested in the nearby cliffs were circling and gliding through the crisp spring air. Zack stood there by the river's edge and took a deep breath. He loved the smell of the river.
A fish jumped and Ziggy ran into the water, trying to catch it.
"Come back here, Ziggy," Zack said, "Let's go find Ivy. The shad are running!"
About this page:
I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
