One of Huela singer/songwriter/guitarist Rob Stewart’s earliest memories is that of making a wincing scowl whilst ‘playing’ an unstrung electric guitar along to his father’s rock or funk or jazz or gospel music. His mother said, “you don’t need to make such an angry face!” But the young Stewart knew that there was passion coming out of the stereo, and in order to play along, he must be wrapped up in it.
Hailing from Syracuse, NY, where the snow layers its own silent music, Huela has found themselves under the influence of many songsters: Marvin Gaye, Elvis Costello, Bowie, Beatles, Michael Knott. Huela howls out songs that are eccentric & yearning & infused with the real hope of Jesus.
After studying classical music & theatre in college, a young & restless Stewart headed to NYC to seek a career as an actor. But there was a nest full of chirping songs growing in his heart, dying to get out, and every moment on the theatrical stage was being interrupted by daydreams of rock & roll. He left the City to regroup and form a band...Performing under "The Day" then "Rob Stewart and the Exploding Geranium Bombs of Love (EGBL)" the group eventually became known as "Huela" a nickname that means "consolation"... Currently, Stewart has found himself flying solo once again, which makes the goal of playing a show in every possible venue on earth closer to a reality: coming to a closet near you... Thanks for listening.
Hello, You left me a nice comment last week or so and I wanted to say thanks. I like the voice you have up. It's very catchy. There are some great screaming parts. And the snare drum is perfectly tuned on Geraniums and sounds amazing and timed right. Everything sounds great and is so mellow. You really know what you're doing. Do you have CDs up or shirts or something? I'd like to be able to show you guys off. Anyways, keep doing what you're doing. Keep it real, Chris
hello rob! thank you for the message : ) the beard is getting long! I hope it's keeping you warm in freezing syracuse. You're playing at funk n waffles right after my train leaves for buffalo..but I'd have showed up to root you on had it been a few hours earlier. Good luck! Hope to see you again soon
Why did you schedule a show for the night of The Academy Awards? Are you trying to steal Daniel Day-Lewis' thunder? I will try to attend (your show, not The Oscars..)
