About me:

TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21ST! Paul Pot's Open Mic 5th Anniversay At The Missouri Lounge Join the celebration tonight as Paul Pot celebrates 5 years of his Wednesday Night Open Mic at The Missouri Lounge in Berkeley. I will be performing as well as the usual cast of crazies. Most of my current band as well as the artists of the last 2 cds I produced all began at Paul's Open Mic. One of those cds is, of course, Paul's band The Happy Clams, whose cd "All Steamed Up, Baby!" is doing well and can be had by going to http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/happyclams The fun starts at 7 at The Missouri Lounge-San Pablo & Parker-Berkeley! THE 6TH ANNUAL GREATEST BIRTHDAY EVER! Pictures! ..You're Invited..

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2ND PAPA'S TAVERNA PRESENTS:   THE FIFTH ANNUAL GREATEST BIRTHDAY EVER! PART 2     THE WORLD FAMOUS HOKUM BOYS with special guests   & Featuring COATLAN (Hard Rock en espanol!)

That's right there's more!  30 minutes north of the Richmond or Golden Gate bridge is this place called Petaluma where my band, The World Famous Hokum Boys & guest performers will be playing free in the second part of The Fifth Annual Greatest Birthday Ever!  If you leave the city between 7 or 8 you'll make it easily in time to help me put the finishing touches on what should be the greatest birthday show ever.  Since Wednesday is Paul's event I can't mix and match players at will, like we can for this show. More importantly, I'd love to share my favorite time of year with good friends and whoever shows up and have great fun in the process.   Doors open at 6 p.m. with my good friends, "Spanish hard rockers" Coatlan opening. They'll play again after The Hokums and friends.  The Hokums start at 8 p.m.  and will go 'til the fun stops or the money runs out.   Admission is free!  $2 Draft Beer, $5 Appetizers & the whole dinner menu is available, plus whatever else is put out!  Everything made at Papa's make is unbelievably fantastic.   I hope to see you there to help me celebrate this move to new territory, and of course, my birthday!

.. ..
WHAT:  Harlan's Fifth Annual Greatest Birthday Ever! Part One
WHEN:  Wednesday, September 30th--7 p.m. 'til 12 a.m.?
WHERE:  The World Famous Missouri Lounge-2600 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley
Greetings All!
Ahh, fall...World Series with a possibility of the Chicago Cubs as one of the teams...nah, Football, New TV shows, no new O.J. trials... What a time to celebrate!
Yes it's that time of year for me to celebrate me..with your help, of course!
Please join me for the Fifth Greatest Birthday Ever on Wednesday, September 30th at The World Famous Missouri Lounge-2600 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, now designated with landmark status as the birthplace of Paul Pot.
As always, there will music, fun, food (that you just happen to bring) and finally, more fun!  Presents are accepted.
Of course being a Wednesday night, the entertainment will be provided by performers, friends and strangers performing at the World-Famous Paul Pot Open Mic while I celebrate another year of fun and happiness and hope for another one next year and the release of the 2nd Happy Clams CD.
I'm told that schedules permitting, there may be a re-appearance by the two most famous members of the Rot Pack, Hank Sinatra & Hammy Davis, Jr. as well as special guests in special little one-off bands.
All in all it promises to be a swingin' affair that is meant to be shared and enjoyed with all of my friends, tormentors, hecklers and strangers bearing gifts.
Please join me for this life-affirming celebration!
(Ya better be there!)
I love you all!

HOWEVER, You will all receive invitations for Part 2 of this Fifth Annual Greatest Birthday Ever! Part Two which is not only within 30 minutes of the east bay or city, it will feature some of the area's and East Bay's performers FREE and starring THE WORLD FAMOUS HOKUM BOYS featuring Harlan Hollander (aka Huey Hokum) who need your support at this gig to help get the band new fans and followers in the North Bay.  Since the main entertainment doesn't start until 8, there's no reason that you have not to attend (unless you're Paul Pot and have made a previous committment with Candy.)  I'm expecting a gang of my favorite players from different bands and they're peeps for a show that combines great music, fun times, $2 Draft Beer and $5 Appetizers, plus a full menu.

This announcement will come by Friday.

Join me in a celebration of me! (and you!)

FRIDAY, JULY 17TH

THE FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR REVUE AT PAPA'S TAVERNA PRESENTS:

THE PULSATORS

UP CLOSE, PERSONAL & FREE!

HOSTED BY HARLAN HOLLANDER

DOORS OPEN AT 5, MUSIC AT 7

and featuring $2 Draft Beer & $5 Appetizers

All Ages Welcome!

The Pulsators formed in 1989 and released three albums over the following decade and a half. Their first CD, titled THE PULSATORS, prompted a Northern California music magazine to call them “one killer band with irresistible hooks.” The Press Democrat’s “On Q” responded to the second album, HERE’S TO YOU, with “this firecracker band proves it’s only getting better with time,” adding that The Pulsators reproduce “the hyper essence of their live shows, along with a tight professional musicianship”. The Petaluma Argus-Courier wrote that the album “captures the easy groove and good-time feeling that the band projects.”

Rooted in the fertile musical soil of the Sonoma County Wine Country the Pulsators are a sixpiece band that plays its own brand of music. With a get-up-and-dance kind of orchestration, their music has been defined as a spicy blend of driving blues, New Orleans-funky R&B, rock steady reggae and rock-and-roll. Their music supports an ever-growing legion of faithful fans who keep coming back for more. The Pulsators have been voted a Sonoma County fan-favorite four times in reader's choice polls given by The Press Democrat.

On their home turf, The Pulsators play festivals, nightclubs and private events but have also toured extensively throughout the western United States and began collaborating with New Orleans rock-and-roll pioneer Art Neville, who signed a publishing deal with them and lended his talent to HERE’S TO YOU, by performing on three of the album’s tracks. Art invited the Pulsators to open for the Funky Meters at Tipitina’s in New Orleans; they later played numerous shows with the Neville Brothers in Louisiana and California, including the House of Blues in Hollywood and the Fillmore in San Francisco. The band has been billed with such artists as Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Chris Isaac, Al Green, Taj Mahal, The Radiators, Buddy Guy and B.B.King.

The Pulsators recently finished their much anticipated third CD, CAN’T PUT YOU DOWN. The new album is filled with more Pulsators originals, blending funk, blues and ska. It’s a combination of “make your feet move” dance music and soulful harmonies with a lot of great horns.

For more information, you can visit the band’s website at http://pulsators.com

Friday the 10th:  One of my favorite bands in the East Bay, Bunny Numpkins and The Kill Blow Up Reaction is playing at The Friday Happy Hour Revue at Papa's Taverna-5688 Lakeville Highway-Petaluma...Doors open at 4.30 p.m. with
$2 Draft Beer and $5 Appetizers (which, by the way are a meal in themselves!).  I may perform solo at 6 with the band on at 7.
Sunday the 12th:  The Festival Of Drums at The Stork Club-2330 Telegraph Avenue-Oakland...Doors open at 4:30 with the show starting at 5.  This will be the one-time only appearance of my big band, THE HORNY TOADS, and using modern technology will feature members of this ensemble in Oakland, Chicago & New Orleans playing one of the greatest drum-solo hits of all time.  All are encouraged to bring some form of percussion or at least be prepared to play thigh drums or some kind of percussive-sounding thing.  This is a great way to join the show and also makes a great stress reliever and decreases the chances of you ever hitting someone or something!  Seriously, it's going to be a great night!

Papa's Taverna, known for it's amazing food, Greek music & bellydancing now features its new

FRIDAY NIGHT HAPPY HOUR REVUE Hosted by Harlan Hollander

Harlan promises great music and has already started the process of bringing known performers to give Tavernites a chance to see some of their favorite area artists in an up close and personal way. Bringing a wide variety of entertainment, Papa's will be the place to be to start your weekend. Drink & Food Specials combined with their famous $2 Draft Beers will make Papa’s your first stop on the way to a fun & entertaining weekend. Hollander, new to Sonoma County, was excited for the opportunity to win new fans in his new hometown area, as he has at venues throughout the country. He hosted the longest-running Sunday Night Open Mic in Hollywood which featured performers from such bands as Blondie, Tom Petty, The Groovy Rednecks, The Plimsouls, as well as providing local amateurs their shots at glory. When returning to Chicago in the early 90’s for a few years he returned to his blues roots as the house guitarist at the legendary Checkerboard Lounge, which bands like the Rolling Stones made a regular stop on their way through Chciago during many tours. In May Harlan appeared at San Francisco’s Hemlock Taverm as a guest performer with legendary L.A. rockers, The Dogs, which was simply nothing less than an amazing reunion of these long-time friends who shared many bills together over the years and considered one of the best shows in recent history. Harlan has just finished producing the debut release from Berkeley’s The Happy Clams, whose new cd "All Steamed Up, Baby!" is already getting great reviews and loads of airplay. He also produced the debut cd of blues artist Captain Mike and until recently perfromed with both The Clams & Captain Mike as a regular guest, adding his patented solid rhythm guitar to these and other bands who turn to him regularly to bring that extra energy and talent to bring the audiences to a level of excitement that can turn a crowd into a frenzy of fun. Until recently Harlan hosted and perfromed with his band The World Famous Hokum Boys at the Monday Night Blues Bash at Berkeley’s Missouri Lounge for over 2 years before returning to producing and performing with a number of Bay Area artists and becoming house engineer at Berkeley’s famous Starry Plough Pub. Starting as a young blues guitarist in Chicago, he later moved to Hollywood and became one of the most sought-after guitarists, producer and live audio engineer. His work can be heard on albums he was called in to fix for many established performers who needed his help in saving their projects. He has worked with with such artists as R.E.M, Junior Wells, The Blasters, Canned Heat, George Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, The Angry Samoans, The Mentors, The Beat Farmers, The Phenomenauts, Let's Go Bowling, Tony Bennett, Kenny Rogers, Three Dog Night, John Lee Hooker, Phast Phreddie & Thee Precisons, Peter Case and many more. He also has worked with such Latin Music Stars at Los Huricanes Del Norte, El Tiempo, La Banda Del Pueblo & Apache. So watch out Sonoma County, there's a new face to an established place: Papa's Taverna, the home of good times and fun in Petaluma!
