Michael caught the guitar bug at the early age of thirteen and from that moment on music became a major part of his life. Spending his early years fine tuning his talents in several bands, in the late eighties Michael joined the top regional band “The Creek”. During his time with The Creek the band was voted by NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) as the number one rock attraction on the east coast. They were semi-finalists on the long running international talent competition, Star Search. They recorded several albums which were highly successful in the United States that garnered even more success in the European market. These albums featured several charting Top 10 Import singles and were favorites of Kerrang and Metal Forces magazines. Music critics for both magazines praised Michael’s overall talents and songwriting saying his songs were some of the most notable songs on the albums.
Looking to expand his horizons, Michael left “The Creek” in the 90s and took some time off to write. Soon after, he began collaborating with Jimi Ray of Benson Music recording artist “Age of Faith”. This collaboration produced the highly successful Christian rock album entitled “Heart of the Young”. This sold tremendously well in the United States and Canada, garnering several charting singles. During this time Michael had the good fortune to work with some of the music industry’s finest (and personal favorites) Dann Huff (founding member of Giant and famed producer for Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and etc.), David Huff (Giant drummer & studio musician), Steven Curtis Chapman, Bob Carlisle, DC Talk, The Newsboys and many more.
Having the desire to get back to his hard rocking roots, Michael along with Steven “Hamie” Hayman (former lead singer of Polygram recording artist “Heavy Pettin”) formed the band Chyld. Their debut release “Saints & Sinners”, which Michael engineered and produced, featured songs written by Michael, Hamie and Damon Johnson (Brother Cane, Whiskey Falls). The album received critical acclaim from the US & European media. From Chyld, Michael went on to become a founding member of the top regional band SuperGlide. Often referred to as the modern day version of the Eagles they opened for such national acts as The Doobie Brothers, BTO, The Little River Band, Rick Springfield and many more.
Michael is thrilled to be a part of SwampdaWamp and looking forward to this new journey that lies ahead.
