Hello. I'm a folk singer and music leader. As you'll hear if you listen to the songs and tunes on here, I play guitar and mandolin and sing. I am from Paisley, but live near Derby now. My favourite music is still the Scottish folk song.
A music leader is a specialist who encourages others to make music. The participants may be in schools or in various community groups. I have been working in music, both performing and teaching, for about 5 years now, and enjoying myself, going from job to job. My profession is that of a "portfolio worker" who takes on short engagements then looks around for more employment. It's not steady work, but you get to travel around quite a lot. In fact, I'm just back (early Nov) from a two month gig in Qatar, where I was playing in an Irish bar!
I am now preparing for various project I'll be working on in the New Year. One of these is new settings of songs by Robert Tannahill, the Paisley Poet. It's his Bi-centenary in 2010. Some of those songs are featured here. I hope to perform these in folk clubs and festivals in 2010. I'm busy recording my new versions of Tannahil's songs and will put samples on this page and it's partner page soon. The other page is called "Tannahill Trail" so please have a look at that to learn more about the project.
In gigs I sometimes play solo with the guitar or with a duo. In that line-up I get the chance to play jigs & reels on the mandolin. Again, I'll put some tunes on here once we've recorded them. I'm rehearsing with a new guitarist at the moment, so we should be ready to gig by December.
