Electric Violinist Hugh Marsh is widely recognized as Canada's foremost improvising
violinist. He has toured, recorded or performed with Bruce Cockburn, Loreena Mckennitt, Peter Murphy, Mercan Dede, Robert Palmer, Daniel Lanois, Michael Brecker, Tagaq, Bonnie Raitt, James Blood Ulmer, Ursula Rucker, Harry Gregson Williams, Flea,
Lisa Gerrard, Hans Zimmer, Gregoire Maret, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Andy Milne, Dafnis Prieto, Billie Bang, Horacio Hernandez, Kani Karaca, Goksel Baktagir, Sonny Stitt, Mel Torme, Roberto Occhipinti, Random Access, Montuno Police, Sonny Greenwich and Don Byron among others.
Hugh is also very active in the film score world in Los Angeles through his
longstanding working relationship with the composer Harry Gregson Williams.
This has included the scores to Armageddon, Spy Game, Veronica Guerin, The Rundown, Sinbad, Man on Fire, Shrek 2, Domino, Kingdom of Heaven, The Chronicles of Narnia, Seraphim Falls, Deja Vu and The Number 23.
Hugh has also had the pleasure of working with Hans Zimmer on the scores for
"Tears of the Sun", and "The Da Vinci Code".
Marsh's latest solo recording entitled "Hugmars" features guest appearances by James Blood Ulmer, poet Ursula Rucker, Tanya Tagaq Gillis (from Bjork's band), harmonica visionary Gregoire Maret and rapper Kokayi. Slated release for Sept. 2006.
Hugh is currently working on new releases for Loreena Mckennitt and Mercan Dede.
This summer he will be touring with trumpeter Jon Hassell.
Marsh is a 4 time winner of the National Jazz Award for violinist of the year.
