  • Bio

Hugh Potts Sr., skilled saxophonist and composer, began his musical career at age 10. During 1971 through 1973, he became the first saxophonist for two consecutive years in the New Jersey International Allstate Band. In his teens, Mr. Potts was a member of an instrumental gospel group called, The Lindenairs. The desire to build on to his existing God-given talents led to his becoming a self-taught pianist. This accomplishment allowed him to fulfill frequent opportunities to display his musical brilliance by playing for numerous churches throughout the union and essex counties. He spent four years as an organist for the Rahway State Prison's chapel and for the Diagnostic Center in Rahway. In the late 1980's, Mr. Potts performed as keyboard player for "Onyx", an R&B group and in the early 1990's, started two gospel groups,"Armed and Dangerous" and "Spiritual Explosion". Hugh was also the keyboardist for Cashmere working with two agencies called, "Entertainment Network" and "Barry Herman Orchestras". He has performed at the Symphony Hall and NJPAC (New Jersey Performing Arts Center) in Newark, NJ. Hugh drew on his composing abilities to record CDs with "Jesus, The Mender of Broken Hearts" by Rev. Dr. Pauline Ballard. He performed on various CD projects including "It's not about me" by an urban gospel artist (Ametria of MCA Records) and a most recent CD entitled "Lift Him Up" with the group, "Gospel Harmony" Mr. Potts continues to write music and produce artist. He also writes and records music tailor made for those who have lyrics and melodies and also do cover songs and backup music for singers. For those singers who need back-up music when they perform or for those who do karaoke, Mr. Potts will produce, record and provide you with a pre-recorded music track, fully orchestrated. Also re-arrange the track and change the key of the music track to suit your purpose. Four of the music tracks that you hear on this page (Yesterday, Look at me, The Prayer and Am I Dreamin') are just a few of the pre-recorded music done by Mr. Potts. Mr. Potts is the CEO of Hughnique Music Publishing and co-owner of Inventive Music Publishing along with Kevin Bates. Mr. Potts can also make it very affordable to have your songs recorded. To those who are serious songwriters and those who love to sing, he has fees that he is sure you would be interested in. You may send Mr. Potts a message or you can e-mail him. (hugh_p1@yahoo.com).
