Nordic Roots Experience that pre-dates lefse by 2,000 years!
Influences
All the Volva across the globe! Earliest performance influence is Laurie Anderson. As a performance artist my work is visually rich. Local women who are working in Scandinavian music are Arna Rennan, Ruth Makenzie, Karen Solgard, Ruth Sylte, Karin Odell, Andrea Sullivan, Carol Sersland...
Kari Tauring has been creating Nordic Roots song, rhythm, trance, and dance throughout the Midwest since 2003 and doing Global Ritual Performance since 1999. Huldre, fairy folk of Scandinavia, teach her the songs and sounds of her deep Scandinavian heritage. Often animal calls (lokk) are part of the presentation and you will hear the stav, the staff of the Volva Kona, in magical rhythm making. Kari performs solo as well as adding Huldre Folk to the mix. The music is environmental and who ever is there when it happens becomes part of the performance!
If you're around on Thursday, December 10th, we are playing a show at Mario's Keller Bar. I don't know if you've been there, but it's a very cool place. It's a comfortable space, the room sounds great and they have a stellar beer selection.
Also, we will be playing ALL NIGHT! We'll play some funky, bluesy, and soulful music. We'll project live video onto a 9 ft screen. We'll play some older material that hasn't been heard in awhile, as well as some brand new songs that've never been heard. All bets are off!! We'd love it if you'd come down and listen/party with us!
Sure Kari, I'd love to sing and play the Lur with you, and make some music together:-) I really hope you manage to come to Norway next summer! Have a great sunday: Love Sonja
I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
So you have been to Norway... Did you have a concert? Where in Norway were you? I know It's not easy when you're travelling on others scedule. But if you're coming back, please tell me, so we can meet!!! Have a great summer, Kari:-))
Hey Kari, xxl thanks for the details ... in fact we're doing similar, some of our tunes are from minstrels like Walther von der Vogelweide (12th century) but also celtic roots (esp. bavarian celtic roots as we grew up here) - hard to get and interpret but worth it - keep our roots and bring them back to 21th century :-)
I myself am esp. interested in Viking tunes and visited Northern Europe several times now - just to feel the spirit.
All the best for your projects as they deserve a big audience!
Hello as these? Thank you for the add!! We wait and please our musical offer, to raise our culture and real roots especially of the music, clearly a demo but acceptably enough, an embrace CEMICAN cenca tlazohcamati tecuhtli
