The Plan
The Hull Freedom Trail is an anti-slavery project initiated by a group of people
in Hull (UK) who want to celebrate the abolition of slavery 200 years ago. They
came up with a practical project:
Goal 1:
The HFT will support anti-trafficking and human rights
charities in Sierra Leone with the donation of five 4x4 vehicles. The cars
will expand the operational reach of these NGOs all over Sierra
Leone where road conditions are mostly very poor. The cars will be used to
supply orphanages, reunite families and support projects for the reintegration
of former child soldiers.
Goal 2:
The 24 members of the HFT will
drive these 4x4 vehicles from Hull (UK) to Freetown (SL) and use their journey
to raise awarness about slavery in the 21st century. The documentary filmmaker
Claudio von Planta (best known for filming Long Way Round and Long Way Down
with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman) will capture the Hull Freedom Trail
adventure and share the experience on the internet, on TV, radio, and in other
spin off projects.
