hum-drum films was founded in the spring of 2007 amongst an expanse of derelict buildings and a good show of worn out shrubs. It was a bright day; a cloudless day; a windy day that threw back our hair tops leaving us helplessly askew.
It was that self-same spring of electromagnetic pulse weapons; when information chips were planted in our brains; when celebrities were snapped on beaches looking fat in swim suits.
We drank tea, some of us ate biscuits, whilst we chit-chatted in a less than comfy box room that smelt of damp dogs. Our host, a creamy-faced pretty boy with perfect teeth, handed round tangerines, and although I found the idea of eating fruit with tea absurd, I didn’t say anything and popped the orange segments into my mouth. And all the time I kept thinking of my friend's pet who had died recently (poor thing), and somebody else, I don’t know who, said they wanted big hair; really big hair, “Like, really big,” they said.
This went on until we had to go home for our evening meals, which we did because we were hungry and a little tired from the day's outing. But somewhere, in that very spring, pinpointed between lunchtime and the threshold of night, an afternoon, the idea, the concept, the very framework of hum-drum films was born.
We wanted to give all our friends a gift, so here's the gift of film; a tastefully sized web video player running a couple of hours worth of the best short films in the world to you, for free (some people expect you to pay for films you know). Perhaps the coolest thing of all is that it even updates when we add a new film each week. So, enjoy the gift, watch some films, and if one isn't grabbing you hit the >| icon to skip to the next one or you can hit the book icon for more info on a film and links to the filmmakers, there's all kinds. Have a great week! xCoffee
Welcome to Monday and the latest indie film from the Coffee Shorts network; this is one for everyone who has ever been sucked into working in corporate hell, and feels pretty relevant at this time of financial institutions being highly dodgy scumbags; beautifully shot and crafted by German filmmaker Christian Grüner (better known for his high end advertising and extreme sports films as Pikestaff Studios) Still Waiting suggests the innate goodness of man is matched only by his innate greed... ..
