Originally from Chicago, IL and now residing in the rainy city of Seattle,WA, Hunab Ku's music is articulate, weird, and complex to it's core. From the twisted, dark and alien soundscapes, to the super dense rhythmic madness and shredding. Their sound is unique, cerebral, and arguably insane. It paints a calculated and vivid picture of expression, exclusive to them, within modern avant garde metal.
In Sept. of 05' the foursome released an intense four-song demo which quickly created a buzz within the metal community. As a follow up to it's release, the band began playing out locally and regionally in the NW. The manic display of energy and sonic agility in their live show was crippling. Their colorful and dynamic material was inventive and strange. These qualities were all backed by a relentless work ethic and a drive to succeed, shatter molds, and present themselves to a world audience.
In early 2007 the band stepped back into the studio to record a completely new body of work. This endeavor documented dramatic advances in sound and concept since their 2005 release. In late 2007, original guitar player, Dan Hagerty, would part ways with the band, creating what could have a been a nightmare replacement scenario. They were fortunate to find their new guitarist shortly after, in friend (and local Seattle super shredder) Luke Jaeger, of Sleep Terror. Luke's addition to the project was a completionary measure in solidifying the existence of what was becoming some sort of demented and beautiful musical super specimen. What resulted in the 2008 release "The Gaze Inward," is the initial result of this collaboration. It is convincingly some of the most exciting composition in recent experimental metal music.
In 2008-09, Hunab Ku works tirelessly to refine every aspect of their operation as a musical unit, and as a touring band. Writing conceptually mind bending new material and having it heard by people who are ready for something beyond common. Working together with fascinating and talented artists of different mediums while aggressively advocating a movement and a passion for creativity and free thinking in the world.
