About Hungry Ghost

Formed in the summer of 2003, Hungry Ghost is (or was) basically two different songwriters who joined up to rock. One was Jon, who had been honing his metallic guitar style for years with drummer Kevin, and the other was Ryan, who wrote minimalist punk tunes about libertarian philosophy and government corruption. Surprizingly the two styles blended well, with Ryan's three chord punk tunes providing variety amongst Jon's longer metal tunes. Things worked so well that the two guitar players started co-writing, mostly with Ryan providing words and Jon providing music, although there were exceptions. A twin lead guitar style emerged as well, with Ryan and Jon playing harmonies. Ryan's brother Brandon played the bass.

Within 6 months of forming the band started recording an album, which was completed in roughly 3 months. The band was constantly writing and developed a rather devoted following in a very short time, but by May 2005 Ryan decided to call it quits for various reasons and went off to do solo music while the rest of the band morphed into the relatively short lived Carrion Bomb.

In the autumn of 2007 the band played a one-off reunion show with all four original members. Most of the band had fun playing the old songs again and the remaining three members minus Jon are changing the name of the band and carrying on the music as the Tax $laves due to multiple competition for the old band name of Hungry Ghost.
