**after the success of our Johnny Flynn night, hush kicks off in February with Moshi Moshi event featuring Slow Club, Hot Club De Paris & Hot Chip DJ's**
February 2008 marks the official launch of an unprecedented scheme at London’s Royal Albert Hall. A series of intimate nights held in the venue’s historic Elgar Room throughout the year, hush will feature a host of upcoming artists and independent record labels, marking this national (nay international) landmark’s commitment to championing new and independent music in the UK.
Each hush event will be hosted by a different, specially-selected indie label, who will work with the venue’s dedicated programmers to bring their own individually-themed lineup to these unique surroundings. The first of the year-long series, Feb 12th will mark a collaboration with much-loved indie Moshi Moshi Records (Kate Nash, Bloc Party, Hot Chip). Hot Club de Paris and Slow Club, with a DJ set from Hot Chip, will kick off the hush series in a suitably celebratory fashion - Moshi will also be launching their 10th birthday celebrations at the event.
The creation of the hush series signals the charity’s philanthropic passion and support for new talent. For some, it may also mark a kind of democratisation of the venue:– any Londoner worth his/her travelcard has visited the Royal Albert Hall at least once in their lives…though it is for many, associated with music events on a much grander scale (from hosting The BBC Proms and awards ceremonies, to concerts by Jay-Z and the Flaming Lips). But the sheer intimacy of these nights - the Elgar Room has a 200 person capacity - coupled with the nature of the talent involved, will go some way to proving the Royal Albert Hall’s status as an inclusive and eclectic venue, accessible to fans of any and every musical persuasion.
