Hello I'm Huw and I'm from Cwmaman.....or 'Shang-Ri-La' as it's often referred to (mostly by me,though). Come with me on a wander through the place on a Sunday morning.
For the most part I play guitar and sing with flautist Catherine Handley, and we have recorded 2 CD's of our brand of folk music. The first is called 'In the Tradition' and it was completed shortly after meeting each other in 2002. The current one is called ' A Journey', and this was done in 2006. Both are available at www.creightonscollection.co.uk as hard copy and download.
Before meeting Catherine, I was in the band 'Raglan', where we recorded a CD of the same name in 2001, and before that, I was lucky enough to play with Andy McKay's 'Hanky Panky Band' for a good few years, recording 'Shoot the Invisible Dog' ,'A Bit of Hanky Panky' and my solo CD 'Ready When You Are' in that magic time.
I really enjoy playing solo gigs these days, when I'm asked to, and spend a lot of my daytimes teaching guitar in local schools, or playing concerts with Catherine for the Music in Hospitals charity, which takes us all around Wales and the West Country. You can find out more about the charity by going to their website www.music-in-hospitals.org.uk
I also enjoy travelling and photography, and I'm sometimes lucky enough to do everything at once.
And here are some of the players I've had the pleasure of hearing and photographing over the last couple of years.
Thank you for the add, Huw, I hope you'll allow me to mention England 19 Wales 26 here... Some lovely pics from home, you certainly are multi-talented.
Hi Huw, how's things? Thanks for getting in touch, no problem adding you to our friends. Hopefully catch up with you again soon, cheers for now, Tim and Blind River Scare
Nice to be friends! I like your site - is it a new idea, as opposed to that of you as a duo so to speak? Let me know if you're down this way in the future as I might be able to give you a gig at Club EClectic- you can see about it on my site - I'm working on a proper space for it at the moment -
The Shepherds Arms was visited today by an officer of the Cultural Treasures scheme who came to look at the Shepherds Arms for the first time
Earlier this week we received confirmation that the Shepherds Arms can legally be demolished at any time despite the local press running an article with the headline 'Historic pub is saved'. This article was wrong - the sheps is far from saved! Plans have been scrapped to build a library where the sheps stands now but the building can still be demolished. Action is stepping up to raise awareness of what is potentially Cwmaman's 'Cultural Treasure' in the hope that those attempting to tear down the Sheps, think again and look at the potential of the building and how it could be revived for a future generations.
Now online: pictures from the launch of a giant paper sculpture based on the Shepherds Arms and Cosmology. The theory behind the art is very interesting and complicated. Coming soon is a weblink to the full explanation which draws on Greek mythology and Saturn's rings to support the concept.
Hey Huw,
Thanks for finding me here and coming to the gig again last night. Lovely to finally hear some of your music too. Nice work sir!
Best wishes,
Chris.
