Cefndir (English bio below)

Yn haf 2010 gafodd albym cyntaf Huw M (Huw Meredydd) ei rhyddhau ar label Gwymon. Mae'r albym yn gymysgedd o ganeuon gwreiddiol, ambell i hen alaw werin, wedi eu manglo gyda'i gilydd gyda dylanwadau o Ffrainc a Brasil i greu "pop bach" sydd wedi ei ddisgrifio fel “an infectious, irresistible slice of pop loveliness."

Hyd yma, mae Huw M wedi perfformio mewn gwyliau fel End of the Road, Gwyl SWN yng Nghaerdydd dair gwaith, Camden Crawl, Taith Tafod a'r Steddfod. Mae Huw wedi ymddangos ar amryw o raglenni teledu a radio, yn cynnwys Radio 1 a 6 Music (yn cynnwys sesiwn i Marc Riley), ac yng ngwanwyn 2010 fe enillodd y wobr am Artist Unigol Gorau yng ngwobrau y cylchgrawn Y Selar, a Cyfansoddwr Gorau ac Artist Gwrywaidd Gorau yn ngwobrau RAP BBC Radio Cymru.

Hefyd yn perfformio ar yr albym mae Lucy Simmonds ar y sielo, Bethan Reynolds yn canu a chlocsio, a Frank Naughton ar y drymiau ac offerynnau amrywiol eraill.

Bio
In June 2010 Huw M (Huw Meredydd) released his debut album 'Os Mewn Sŵn' (translated as 'If in Noise') on the Gwymon label. The album is a mix of original melodies, a few borrowed Welsh folk songs, mangled together with influences from France and Brazil, all conveyed in his Welsh mother tongue to create ‘small pop’ that’s been described as “an infectious, irresistible slice of pop loveliness."

To date, Huw M has played in festivals such as End of the Road, the 'SWN' Festival in Cardiff three times, Camden Crawl, and the Taith Tafod tour. Huw has made appearances on various radio and television shows, including Radio 1 and 6 Music (including a session for Marc Riley), and in the spring of 2010 he won the awards for Best Solo Artist in the Welsh music magazine Y Selar’s Awards, and for Best Composer and Best Male Artist in BBC Radio Cymru’s Gwobrau RAP music awards."

Huw is joined by Lucy Simmonds on the cello, Bethan Reynolds on vocals and clog dancing, and Frank Naughton on drums and various other instruments.

Reviews/ Adolygiadau

"Huw M's debut album is an infectious, irresistible slice of pop loveliness."
- Buzz Magazine (★★★★)

"Stunningly beautiful piece of music ... [Rhywbeth Dros Dro] is gorgeous."
- Stuart Maconie, BBC 6 Music

"The highlight may be Seddi Gwag, particularly for Bethan Reynolds's clog dancing (an aural treat), but Gad y Diwrnod Wrth Y Drws finds a space midway between 1967 Beatles and Sigur Rós, while the spirit of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci flows from every song."
- David Hutcheon, The Times (★★★★)

"Huw M writes and plays some of the most beautiful Welsh-inspired folk music to come from across the Severn since Meic Stevens."
- The Line of Best Fit

"Os Mewn Swn is a beautiful collection of beguiling, feel-good folk-pop to brighten up your day."
- Mike Hough, Bright Young Folk

"A dazzling blend of traditional Welsh folk and Celtic music. OS MEWN SWN, the debut from Huw M is a short but sweet slice of Welsh, psychadelic, low-key nu-folk... Beautiful stuff."
- Hazel Davis, Maverick (★★★★)

"Os Mewn Swn - a collection of eight dreamy folk-pop songs that meld Meic Stevens with Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals... It's music in love with melody and experiments, sounding like Icelandic pixies Sigur Ros if they'd grown up in a Brecon forest."
..- Alex Donohue, Big Issue Cymru

"Huw M impresses most handsomely on his first solo album 'If in Noise'. ‘Ond yn Dawel Daw y Dydd’ has a full-on band mixing West African rhythms, hints of psychedelia, a whirling organ and heart-melting harmonies to uplifting effect. .. this could do for the Welsh language what Julie Fowlis did for Orcadian."
- Jackie Hayden, Hot Press

"Huw M deals with universal profundity and the beautifully inconspicuous in equal measures. Os Mewn Sŵn is a collection of eight gentle pieces, adorned with sensitive instrumental textures and remarkably insightful lyrical threads."
- ST, The Miniature Music Press (★★★★)

"Meredydd comes across as someone with a broad musical pallet but the incongruous instrumentations and harmonies ensure that Os Mewn Swn stands out from the plentiful folk revival albums of recent years."
..- AT, Cylchgrawn SWN/ SWN Magazine

"This beautifully structured mini album from Huw M can be used as a defining point of the talent that is overlooked in Wales due to the language barrier... Maybe the rest of the world should be listening too."
- DW, Plugged In

"Huw M is a young Welsh multi-instrumentalist with a keen sense of melody and arrangement... [Os Mewn Sŵn] is a charming and recommended CD."
- Rik Smith, Acoustic Magazine

"This is Huw M's debut album and he looks set to be another Welsh artist to watch out for."
- Francis Brown, City Life Magazine (★★★★)

"[Os Mewn Sŵn] is a stunning album release from a new solo artist who’s creating waves in the Welsh scene, step forth - Huw M."
- Ed Holden, The Absurd

"The 1st two copies of [Os Mewn Sŵn] sold within minutes of us putting it on the player in here! What better recommendation do you need? We rate this very highly!"
- Spillers Records, Cardiff (The oldest record shop in the world)

"It's a beautiful album which has a great big lovely vibe about it... I loved it and it's one of the few albums you can hear on both radio streams here on Folk Radio UK! Wonderful music!"
- Folk Radio UK

"A welcome addition to the growing number of Welsh artists worthy of wider recognition."
- New Sound Wales

"Huw M is an, until recently, unsung pioneer of haunting, intelligent pop music... He uses a stunning aray of instruments to create harmony driven slices of neo-folk that invite you into a serene world where nothing makes sense, but all feels strangely as it should."
- The Miniature Music Press

"When he switches from acoustic to banjo, the chill Huw conjures up seems to strum the hair on the back of necks in time to his own banjo plucking. Very special."
- Kai Jones, SWN 2008 festival review, Gigwise

"Huw M's songs are lush and textural in their delivery, turning the most nondescript of incidents into fragile dramas."
- Buffalo gig review, Michael Took, Guardian.co.uk

"[Mae Y Drôr sy'n Dal y Sanau] yn gân mor wych dwi'n ystyried gweddill y caneuon fel planedau ffrwythlon perffaith o amgylch ei haul gogoneddus yn y system solar hyfryd a yw Os Mewn Swn. Hwre ar bob cyfrif."
- Hefin Jones, Y Selar (8/10)

"Dyma albym cyntaf Huw M, ac mae'n hyfryd... mae'n llawn caneuon celfydd sy'n eich hudo... Prynwch yr albym, mae'n siwr o blesio."
- Lowri Johnston, Tafod

"[Mae] llawer o "enaid" yng nghaneuon Huw rhywffordd, ac mae'r albym yn dod o'r galon - dwi'n hoff iawn o hynny - pan mae artistiaid yn ddigon dewr i ddweud "dyma fi yn fy nghyfanrwydd" a'i rhoi ar record."
- Dai Lloyd, Y Cymro

Rhaglenni gwyliau cerddorol/
Festival programme write-ups:

"The reviews say it all: "Stunningly beautiful", "charming", "gorgeous". Reminiscent of Meic Stevens and the Super Furries' Mwng, this is shimmery Welsh folk-pop at its best. Wedi rhyddhau un o albyms gore 09, Os Mewn Sŵn, a chware End of the Road, roedd rhaid croesawu Mr M i'r wyl eleni."
- SWN 2009, Cardiff

"Multi-intrumentalist Welsh folk-pop. Singing in his mother tongue, Huw M puts together unassuming whimsies of delight and melody. Releasing his first single last summer, the waves have most recently been made by debut album Os Mewn Swn ('If in Noise')."
- End of the Road 2009, Dorset
