Welsh Pianist and composer Huw Warren is known as one of the UK's most individual and versatile creative forces with work crossing the divides between Jazz, Contemporary music and World Music. He never ceases to amaze as an intriguing and thrilling performer and composer. Winner of the highly coveted BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2005, Huw is known to many as co -founder of cult Brit jazzers "Perfect Houseplants" (including several ground breaking collaborations with musicians such as Andrew Manse, Pamela Thorby and the Orlando Consort) and regular arranger/musical director for contemporary folk singer June Tabor (including their most recent project "Quercus" with saxophonist Iain Ballamy) but has recently established an international presence with his ongoing work with Austrian bassist Peter Herbert ( former winner of the Hans Koller Prize) and NY improvising violinist Mark Feldman. In 2007 Huw toured Europe with the Mark Feldman Quartet alongside Drew Gress and Tom Rainey. He has also collaborated recently with singer Maria Pia de Vito (CD Dialektos released in July 2008) and NY based singer Theo Bleckmann.
Previous collaborations include the welsh hymn project God only Knows/Duw a Wyr (with singer Lleuwen Steffan and saxophonist Mark Lockheart) in 2005,. This critically acclaimed reworking of hymns from the 1904-5 revival, was the subject of an S4C documentary, and culminated in Huw writing a new setting of Anne Griffiths' text Rhosyn Saron for a TV performance in 2006. Huw has also performed with Joanna McGregor, Andy Shepard, John Parricelli, Kenny Wheeler, Jim Black, Pamela Thorby, Billy Jenkins, The Fun Horns of Berlin, Billy Bragg, Eddi Reader ,Steve Arguelles, Julian Arguelles, Tim Garland, Waltraud Koettler, Maria Lamburn and Christine Tobin.
