My musical tastes can be best summed up in a single word... Eclectic. It runs the gauntlet across many styles, genres, eras, and artists. My favorite band is U2 and it has been ever since my aunt played me a 45 of the band that she picked up in England while on a school trip in 1980. Other favorites include old school reggae and ska, "classic rock" (when I heard Bon Jovi on the classic rock radio station for the first time, a part of my youth died,) techno and electronica, hardcore, metal, R n B, hip-hop, opera, jazz, and good old fashioned rock n roll. The song on my profile will likely change depending on my mood, or more likely on what my two year old daughter is into at the moment. She loves all music with her favorite artists being Billy Idol, Bob Marley, Cake, and (recently discovered) Depeche Mode. That's my girl!
Books
When I left home for my freshman year of college, I took with me just three books. They were "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, and "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss.
I'm an avid reader with no time to read. It's sad really.
When I do get the time to read, I often find myself reading science fiction, history, mythology, political commentaries and satire, and encyclopedic works.
When I was younger, comic books saved my sanity. I am still a huge fan of them. I have a great respect for comic books as both a way to get children interested in reading and as an artistic medium.
About me: I'm a man. I'm a father. I'm a husband. I'm a devoted son and grandson. I'm a Jersey Boy. I'm smarter than the average bear. I'm your best friend. I'm your worst enemy. I'm loud. I'm stealthy. I'm surprisingly agile for my size. I'm a science fiction nut. I'm honorable. I'm fond of cheese and bacon. I'm a dog lover. I'm a former Zamboni driver. I'm a hugger. I'm a never-ending source of trivial knowledge. I'm a trained firefighter and former EMT. I'm a foodie. I'm the guy with the quick wit that says what you wish you had the courage to say. I'm the guy that can get away with it. I'm a mutt. I'm an honorary lesbian. I'm a student of human nature. I'm known for my compassion, yet I can be callous when wronged. I'm aware. I'm afraid of spiders and hate clowns. I'm honest, sometimes to a fault. I'm open minded, yet set in my ways and slow to change. I'm blessed (cursed?) with a high tolerance to alcohol. I'm sarcastic. I'm tolerant. I'm accepting. I'm a nerd. I'm a formidable Scrabble player. I'm a Capricorn. I'm persistent. I'm an asshole, but they still love me. I'm the Prince of Fuckin' Darkness. I'm an American. I'm strong. I'm a collector. I'm a problem solver. I'm critical of the status quo and I hate stagnation. I'm nearsighted. I'm outgoing. I'm my own worst critic. I'm done here.
Who I'd like to meet: Open minded people. Sci-Fi geeks. Chefs, foodies, and fans of Iron Chef. Roller Derby fans. Lost friends. Found friends. Friends in places both high and low. Comedians. People that hate clowns. The multi-lingual and the multi-cultural. Masters of the Universe and the drones that serve them. Rock stars and roadies. Royalty, diplomats, world leaders, and the common man. The Catholic priest, the Rabbi, and the Buddhist monk that walk into a bar. If you are even remotely interesting as a person, I'm willing to give you a shot.
