   About Hyannis Sound
The Hyannis Sound is an all-male summer a cappella outfit based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

1 Sound, 10 Voices

Every summer, the 10 members of Hyannis Sound embark on an ambitious performance schedule to entertain the daylights out of Cape Cod. In the course of 90 days, they will perform at countless Weekly Shows, Parties, Restaurants, Backyard Gatherings, Cobblestone Streets, and Stadiums. The Sound's extensive repertoire of tunes spans over the past century of popular music (everything from R&B to Traditional to Rock) and is sure to please all ages and tastes. How it got started

The Hyannis Sound was founded in 1994 by Townsend Belisle. Encouraged by the success of the Vineyard Sound, which he founded and managed, Townsend decided to put together a similar group on Cape Cod. Starting small, the group made a name for itself by singing everywhere possible, for all who wanted to listen. After years of hard work and sturdy commitment, the group began to establish itself as one of the finest entertainment groups on the Cape, and has grown into what it is now.

Since its inception, the group has enjoyed more and more public notice, and now holds four weekly concerts extending from Falmouth to Chatham. Thanks to members who founded and nurtured the group, newer members have enjoyed great Cape recognition, as well inherited dozens of friends and families who are near and dear to us.

Accomplishments

To date, the Sound has recorded twelve albums. Their first, Live, All-Natural A Cappella was a recording of their final 94 concert. This was followed by Talk About It in 1996, On The Beach in 99, 110 in 01, and Cape Standard Time in '03. The recently released Route 6 (2005) caps off the collection, containing hits from the past two summers. In 2003, the group also began a practice of releasing an annual Bootleg, a live CD every year (recorded mid-Summer from one show and released at their final show of the summer).

The Hyannis Sound has performed the National Anthem at Fenway Park as well as various Cape Cod League games, and have been featured in publications including The Boston Globe, Cape Cod Magazine, and Martha Stewart Weddings. The 2005 line-up, including 4 new guys chosen from a national pool of nearly 100 candidates, finds themselves with a robust local and national following and a jam-packed summer schedule.

How It Goes

Though a lot has changed since the early days, much has remained the same. The Hyannis Sound maintains a "tenured" membership policy. Once a person is taken into the group, he is free to stay for as many summers as he likes, or until the burdens of "real life" are too heavy to ignore any longer (most guys log 2-3 summers in the Sound). At the beginning of each summer, ten singers, some rookies, some veterans, move into one house to live out a dream that over 40 young men have experienced before them. They build lasting friendships that begin in a small, dingy rehearsal room in May and culminate in an emotional sold-out final concert in August. In between, they take to the Cape and sing their hearts out. They constantly push to expand the diversity and complexity of their music and bring to their audience an exciting live show that is unique and one-of-a-kind, not only from summer to summer, but from one night to the next. The Hyannis Sound is now in its eleventh summer on Cape Cod and, while that is certainly a respectable run, its only the beginning...

It would be really great if there was a group of 10 college aged men who sing on the Cape during the summer. You could call it the Hyannis Sound something. Maybe you should start one. I think people would really enjoy it.
