A MIX OF EVERYTHING METAL!
"Hybrid Illusion laying down their riffs with fucking kickass solos over the hard rocking riffs and vocals, they really knew their songs and kept it all in time with a tight setlist all the way through" - Metal S.A
"Good fucking tunes you have demo'd. I like the style and glad to see ya getting some exposure from the hard work." - Adelaide Metal
"I’d put you up with Skintilla, Officer, Down and Arch Enemy as being one of the best bands I’ve seen live. All the parts of the set and of each song seemed to flow together seamlessly – no member of the band seemed to drag behind or be de-emphasised, and everyone played at what seemed almost a virtuosic level of skill." - Kejumonyet
"You boys have really come along since we saw you last at SAP. That guitarist of yours can really shred. Keep it up." - Left By The Wake
“… With thick, relentless riffs. Raw, powerful vocals. And dominant, frenetic drum work - very much like that of Slayer, Metallica, or Pantera, this Adelaide based Metal Quintet make use of their undeniable skill to create a unique brand of music that is truly their own.” - Matt Boyce
"HAVOC EP, immensely rich with copious use of smoothly crafted guitar rhythms accompanied by the odd beastly deep vocals that enforce the tunes into the listener’s head. " - Anonymous
"A slight preview of what is to come out of this talented group." - Metal SA
"It is one of the better albums to mosh and move to, constantly up, original and excellent use of guitar and vocals" - Anonymous
"Awesome riffs!, killer melodies!, these songs definitely stick in your head!" - David Swiko-Cox
HYBRID ILLUSION is a hard hitting Progressive-Thrash Metal band formed in Adelaide, South Australia. Forged from the talents of Nick Curtis (Lead Guitar), Tom Gleeson (Drums), Alex N (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) and Ryan Galbraith (Bass), the band has been tremendously popular in its local region, performing its first show a mere 6 months after creation and recording its debut EP only 2 weeks after Ryan joined the band in 2006. Hybrid played a total of 22 gigs within 16 months of its first performance, an average of 1.4 gigs a month. Recently, the band held a logo design contest and among the many entrants the winner was Stephen Dorsey from Nebraska, USA.
Hybrid’s music is easily described as old-school thrash with a modern twist which is applied by adding in riffs, ideas and elements from other genres. Rather than sticking to a specific steel frame work of the thrash genre, Hybrid prefers to make kick ass music that sounds good, rather than songs that fit a certain genre or mould. This general principle is then executed by crack musicians.
Nick Curtis is the face melting shredder of the group; he always manages to make sure at least one audience member is left spellbound and mouth agape after performing a mind blowing solo. Nick is currently in study at the University of Adelaide’s Conservatorium and was a music scholarship student at his high school, where the band met.
Tom Gleeson has been playing since he was in grade three and has had a wealth of experience in numerous genres and outings as a drummer and percussionist and has received critical acclaim from accomplished musicians. In his final year of high school, he achieved 19 out of 20 for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Solo Performance subject. Tom’s goal with his drumming is to try and incorporate different styles and grooves into metal, rather than playing the stereotypical metal phrases.
Alex is the band’s front man, using his big personality, great rhythm skills and husky voice to create a Hetfield inspired link to the audience. Alex is what some would consider a natural at guitar, having quickly picked up the instrument. Riffs flow from his veins and onto the fret board while his lyrics spill from his head and onto the page.
Ryan provides the bottom end to huge sound that is Hybrid. Having started on the guitar Ryan was later influenced by Ryan Martinie, and decided to teach himself bass. Ryan’s bass skills really adds to the iconic Hybrid sound, he does more than fade into the background and makes sure the bass really pile-drives into the heart of the mosh.
