"I don't have to be read to be a writer.... And I don't have to be worshipped to be a goddess. But it helps. Believe me, it helps." ~ Clive Barker, Galilee

I'm stimulated by many aspects of this most unusual universe, but not the least of which being this odd collection of ideals, rules, and morals we call civilization. But more then that I'm interested in the study of where, why, and how these things came into being.
Mythology is the only single subject that has held my attention for all of my life. Myths are the tales that have guided our societies and built our dogmas. They are also why I began to write. I want to tell the sorts of stories which stay with the reader long after the book is finished and shelved.
Of all my "interests" I'd say the one that is usually of most interest to others is my small collection of Tarot Cards, Ouija Boards, and other "occult" items. All of which I, of course, know perfectly well how to use.
Music
I'm not a great lover of any particular genre. I usually like songs for their lyrics and tend not to listen to too much instrumental or classical music. By and large I prefer male vocalists to female ones, unless the female's voice has a gravelly quality to it; think Eartha Kitt, Peggy Lee, Betty Bonifassi of the band Beast, Anastacia, Macy Gray, etc. On that same note, while I'm not a fan of heavy metal, there is something I find undeniably appealing about the voices of Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and Brian Johnson of AC/DC.
Movies
Horror and porn.
Books
Life to me is almost pointless unless I am reading or writing something. Nearly everything I do outside of those two things is only done so that I can be more comfortable doing them. One could argue that creating and enjoying books is my single most important life's ambition.
Heroes
When you build others up as your heroes they almost always let you down in the end.
I've been writing poetry for literally as long as I can remember, with some publishing success. A good portion of my work in this area can be read on my blog page, www.hydramstar.blogspot.com
I write mostly dark fantasy with elements of horror and erotica. My work is usually heavy on the social satire, but that doesn't necessarily imply comedy.
Hydra M. Star I just put up a new "What I'm Reading" blog. Posted at 6:57 AM Nov 19 view more
I'm a horror and fantasy writer and poet; published in a few places. I'm mostly focused at the moment on the series of dark fantasy novels I've had in the works for what seems like a life time now; The Chronicles of the Infernal Empire. They center around the lives of the crown princes and other royal figures who created the Earth, jointly rule Hell, and war against Heaven. The first book in the series will be titled The Reluctant Prince and is currently being edited and prepared for publication. Watch my blog Infernal Ink (hydramstar.blogspot.com) for updates and details of this and other personal news and reflections.
If you are wondering, by chance, about my name and how I came by it, I was originally born to a "good" god-fearing mother who named me after Christ, but the name never exactly stuck. I was while growing up called by various nicknames; partly because a good number of the other god-fearing mothers in our community had had the same idea in naming their daughters after Christ as mine did and it all became too confusing for teachers and other adults forced to deal with the product of their lack of originality and partly because the name given me never quite suited me. I have every since my high school years, when I first started getting my poetry published, gone by the name Hydra M. Star. Most people today don't know me by anything else and even my mother has given up the battle for my name and my soul and calls me Hydra.
And, if you're also wondering exactly which religion is 'other', I'm a Satanist and member of the Church of Satan. My religion doesn't divine me, I define it. If you want to change it, you want to change me. If you attack it, you attack me. Understand that before raising the subject, or let it lie.
Who I'd like to meet:
Writers, publishers, editors, critics, and artists of all sorts... In fact, if you're just the sort of person who'd rather spend your evenings snuggled up in bed with a book and a cup of tea instead of on the couch in front of the television with a bag of chips, go ahead and send me an add request. If I sent you a request odds are it's because I believe we have some common interest and/or you're in some way connected to the publishing industry (writer, editor, publisher, etc.) and are here for networking.
I make a point of reading and replying to nearly all private messages (the ones that aren't pointless or lame come-ons anyway), but a good portion of the bulletins posted by those on my friends list are junk and I only open the ones I happen to see that have interesting subject lines. If ever you have something you want me to be aware of and/or think I might be interested in, please, message me directly or don't blame me for missing it.
All comments posted to this page must be approved before they will appear. Anyone attempting to post comments or messages of a religious nature (this includes holiday wishes) that are not Satanic, Atheistic, and/or clearly satire will be removed from my friends list, period. Comments advertising a product or event will only be allowed through if I know the poster personally, support the theology behind it, or it is book/literature related. Even then only send once. Every other kind of promotion, and repeat attempts to post the same comment, will be marked as spam. Likewise, all comments sent using a Myspace App will also be tagged as spam and deleted. I find virtual drinks, kisses, and the like to be just plain asinine and won't have them on my page. Comments with videos, images, or text/links which horizontally stretch out my page will be removed regardless of meeting the other above requirements. Also, and finally, no "text speak" or any other form of shorthand, ever. If you don't have the time to type out your thoughts, I don't have the time or the desire to read them. Thank you!
Hey, Hydra, thanks for the Halloween wishes. I got cut off from the Internet during my travels and once I got back to the South and I had a hard time getting back on.

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!
There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.
Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."
And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."
Hello there, I hope all is well. Thank you very much. Its really cool and it looks better then I could have ever imagined, plus the blurb that they wrote is great.
