Hydrogen Dukebox was founded in 1992 (first release was Feb 14th 1992..). The name is taken from an Allen Ginsberg poem ‘Howl’ which features a café with a jukebox called the Hydrogen Dukebox, the “Dukebox” in this seminal poem spreads hope to the youth of the town and inspiration to everyone who hangs out at the café.

Hydrogen Dukebox kicked off in a South East London kitchen with only a few releases controlled in equal measures by time and money. In 1994 the critically aclaimed Dragonfly (by TLM) made the end of year charts of many top DJs, and magazine opinion poles, and in many people’s eyes was a fore runner to the likes of Underworld etc .. Mixing guitars and vocals with a back drop of progressive dancefloor music. Money was the missing element it seemed !!

In 1995, the label became even more serious (still no office) and signed Slab who were to have a huge impact on the underground breakbeat scene with the single "Rampant Prankster" (mixed by Monkey Mafia) and the massive selling album "Freeky Speed". The label went from strength to strength and signed the likes of A1 People, Chamber and the awesome Metamatics.. After years of international recognition Hydrogen has found it’s feet with a small roster of bands who make the most amazing music.. Hydrogen has it’s music synced in TV and Film around the world from CSI to What Not To Wear and back again.. Now in it’s 15th year Hydrogen has nearly 175 releases out there and 2007 promises some of the best releases yet !!
