BIO:

Bill Morrison’s films have been screened at festivals, museums and concert halls worldwide, including the Sundance Film Festival, the Tate Modern, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Museum of Modern Art has acquired eight of his titles. Morrison is a Guggenheim fellow and has received the Alpert Award. His work with Ridge Theater has been recognized with two Bessie awards and an Obie Award. Bill has produced films to accompany the music of numerous composers, including John Adams, Gavin Bryars, Richard Einhorn, Bill Frisell, David Lang, Michael Montes, Harry Partch, Steve Reich, Todd Reynolds, and Julia Wolfe. "Decasia", his feature length collaboration with composer Michael Gordon, is described by J. Hoberman of the Village Voice as “the most widely acclaimed American avant-garde film of the fin-de-siècle.”

Shown on a large LED screen outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, the film is part of a program curated by Daina Augaitis and Christopher Eamon.

THE MINERS' HYMNS
Thu Jul 15 • Durham, UK • 9:00pm

A commission by UK presenter Forma for BRASS: Durham International Festival 2010, brings filmmaker Bill Morrison together with Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson to create an evening length film using archival films of the mines and miners of Northeastern England. An original score written by Jóhannsson will be performed live, using members of local brass ensembles. The premiere performance will be held in the historic Durham Cathedral, built AD 1093-1133.
