Thank you for visiting my 'My Space' I write romantic science fantasy, although I have been known to venture into other genres, especially Westerns. I have always loved reading - everything from the classics to James Bond! I love all animals, especially horses and enjoy Western riding. I have two horses, Harry and T'pau, two ferrel cats, Milly and Molly and a rescued Jack Russell terrier called Bouncer- oh, and a husband, called Dave. I usually manage to sneak some sort of horse or unicorn into my stories. (In case you're wondering, 'Hywela' is Welsh and is my first name. Since I've always only been called by my second name, Lyn, I decided to combine the two and use Hywela Lyn as my pen name.)
I love writing romantic tales of heroism and adventure in other worlds. My first novel 'STARQUEST' was published in August 2008 by THE WILD ROSE PRESS, and the sequel is due for release in June 2009. I'm thinking about a possible third book in the series. Watch this space for further details...

EXCERPT FROM STARQUEST
Her heart lurched as she looked into the eyes she had once thought cold, unable to hide the longing, or the anxiety in her own. “Do you mean that? Are you sure this is what you want?” she asked, torn between her desperate need for reassurance of his feelings toward her and a genuine desire to say nothing that would make him feel trapped into giving up the freedom she knew he valued so highly. He drew her close to him again.
"How sure do you think I have to be? I love you, Jess.” He kissed the top of her head, her forehead, her lips. “You are the only woman I could ever contemplate spending the rest of my life with.” He smiled once more and she caught the irony in his voice. “The only one I could ever really trust.”
He looked at her with a softness of expression she had never seen in him before, as he reached into his tunic and produced a small, antique gold ring, set with Terran diamonds and emeralds.
“I have carried this around with me for a long time. It belonged to my mother. I don’t remember her, she died when I was very young. I want you to have it, now.”
I am proud to be one of the authors of a new anthology released by the Wild Rose Press over the Summer of 2008.

This is like the top deck
of a ship at night,All I smell
is steamed halibut.
The only sea can smell.
The sanctuary of the solarium
is no exception.
It s everything that is wrong
about healing, it's
the pit in my stomach
or the inflamation.
The inescapable end of the hallway.
The west side of the solarium looking
onto the belle epoch high rise
that owns the horizon, burns its lights
to simulate ships in port,
(impossible to see
for the grain elevators
and the limitations of
windows at night).
A glare from the EXIT sign
shadows the form of a terry cloth robe,
and a hospital I.D. bracelet
hovers like a halo
over Place Ville Marie.

Daffodils stormed and blurred in the train's passing - along the speckled roadbed,
from churchyards, at the foot of every garden - no dance, but a pour of yellow.
My forehead pressed against the train window, my eyes dazed. O to be (I was) in England now.
The coach tilted, I felt dizzy, closed my eyes, opened them again and stared at tossing
daffodils through my own face reflected in the glass. Near-transparent, features rising then
submerging through smears of blue. Self all but erased. We walked a damp footpath beside a meadow
stippled green. Small river catching the light, clumps of sturdy daffodils spilling down its banks
- like a picture in a child's book - blue cups and saucers, green spears.
It's March again. Snow smudges my study window and spring's lost in the middle distance.
I stare at the swirling flakes remembering you and blue daffodils, pale fluttering inside the storm.

Vincent Price was a noted gourmet cook and art collector. From 1962 to 1971, Sears, Roebuck offered
the Vincent Price Collection of Fine Art, selling about 50,000 pieces of fine art to the general public.
Price selected and commissioned works for the collection, including works by Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso,
and Salvador Dalí (see [1]). He also authored several cookbooks.(hehe)

At a certain point I wept.
Up to this point I had kept my death
From everyone (although they knew).
Its lack of inhabitants
Was what made its unearthly beauty
Glow so.
After my weeping, my wife and
Her new friend were more moved
Even than before.
It was my heart,
The cause.

who have grabbed me, found me on the cluttered bookstall
and gone, book clutched in your hand, or stuffed in pocket,
to the near café or steaming snack bar
and over the pie and coffee opened up the pages
for you, quiet girl, young man,
in the youth of your life, who read some pieces
then turn to your own thoughts, your emotions
and write your eight lines, or fifty

the spectral nerve
sweet as sex, for this craft

You step into the water,
indigenous, exquisite.
Your quick grace alive
wire, eerie where I falter
in sweet sickness.
Stirring up the dreams
at the bottom of the pond.
Every gesture, the most incidental
of your movements is slender,
candid. You are perfection
doubled back on itself,
standing before me in this
labyrinthine night forest,
a cool autumn mist
over the water.

Cocoa and marshmallows warm our autumn-chilled bones.
Big bright orange pumpkins and black cats so pretty,
Apples from the valley import to the city.
Casper and Wendy ride in on her broom.
They brighten this night which had tried to bring gloom.
Boy scouts help merry hearts with changing traditions.
Good turns and safety for wholesome conditions.
Big bully goblins pout, not getting their kicks
With horror ax pictures and ghastly ghost tricks.
If scary is mainstream for this holiday
Then label them off-beat who drive scares away.
Spooks crash on in as pretend doctors and nurses,
One as an angel who pores Bible verses.
Pirates say "Aye" with an apple cider toast.
Jack O' Lanterns shine with the smiles that they boast.
A bad witch makes progress if she stirs a new pot
Of sweet herbal sauces and spices real hot,
And washes her hair 'til it's squeaky and clean
And shouts to you now, 'Have a Joyous Halloween!'

A highway wants to own the landscape,
it sections prairie into neat squares
swallows mile after mile of countryside
to connect the dots of cities and towns,
to make sense of things
A river is less opinionated
less predictable
it never argues with gravity
its history is a series of delicate negotiations with
time and geography
